The Wakefield study Association in epidemiologic studies – compare individuals with and without a certain exposure (MMR) to see if the outcome (autism) is higher in the exposed group – compare cases (individuals with the outcome) to controls without the outcome to see if cases are more likely to have been exposed “Association” in this study reflects opinions of patents and physicians, not statistical association – difficult to assess unless proximate in time – might be better to call this “attribution”
