To protect the air and watershed<br />

around Marie Lake.<br />

What We Do<br />

Our ma<strong>in</strong> activity to date has been<br />

<strong>in</strong>terfac<strong>in</strong>g with the oil companies<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the Marie Lake Air and<br />

<strong>Watershed</strong> to m<strong>in</strong>imize the short and<br />

long term accumulative impact <strong>of</strong> these<br />

activities. We also conduct “Liv<strong>in</strong>g by<br />

Water” awareness programs (see<br />

section 12.1.7) for the residents that<br />

live around the lake to raise awareness<br />

<strong>of</strong> potential negative impacts.<br />

River bas<strong>in</strong>. We are located <strong>in</strong><br />

northeastern <strong>Alberta</strong> <strong>in</strong> the M. D. <strong>of</strong><br />

Bonnyville and focus activities around<br />

the Marie Lake air and watershed<br />

which is part <strong>of</strong> the Beaver River bas<strong>in</strong>.<br />

Who We Are<br />

Mission:<br />

To ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> a healthy and function<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Moose Lake watershed and recognize<br />

the importance <strong>of</strong> liv<strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

capacity <strong>of</strong> the natural environment as<br />

a means <strong>of</strong> ensur<strong>in</strong>g susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />

recreational and agricultural benefits.<br />

What We Do<br />

• Improve water quality <strong>in</strong> the Moose<br />

Lake watershed to pre-development<br />

conditions by reduc<strong>in</strong>g nutrient and<br />

other pollutant loads <strong>in</strong>to<br />

waterbodies and improv<strong>in</strong>g riparian<br />

health throughout the watershed.<br />

• Increase public awareness and<br />

engagement <strong>of</strong> land stewardship<br />

activities by knowledge and<br />

dialogue exchange on the impacts<br />

<strong>of</strong> land use/development practices<br />

and their impacts on water quality<br />

and habitat.<br />

• Incorporation <strong>of</strong> this watershed<br />

management plan <strong>in</strong>to Municipal<br />

land use bylaws.<br />
