Club<br />

Who We Are<br />

We are a group <strong>of</strong> local people who are<br />

<strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> natural history, the<br />

environment, and its preservation.<br />

Type <strong>of</strong> group:<br />

The BLNC is one <strong>of</strong> 12 corporate clubs<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Federation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alberta</strong> Naturalists<br />

and has two directors from the<br />

membership who sit on the Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Directors. F.A.N. keeps us all up-todate<br />

on prov<strong>in</strong>cial issues and concerns.<br />

Mission:<br />

• To encourage local <strong>Alberta</strong>ns to<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease their knowledge,<br />

understand<strong>in</strong>g, and appreciation <strong>of</strong><br />

natural history<br />

• To work towards conservation <strong>of</strong><br />

natural areas and native species <strong>of</strong><br />

animal and plant life.<br />

• To help prevent the misuse <strong>of</strong> our<br />

natural resources.<br />

• To promote the study <strong>of</strong> natural<br />

history through varied channels <strong>of</strong><br />

communication, field trips, out door<br />

activities and surveys or <strong>in</strong>ventories.<br />

RED DEER RIVER SUB-WATERSHED<br />

What We Do<br />

• Participate <strong>in</strong> studies such as May<br />

Species Count, Christmas<br />

Birdcount, wildflower survey,<br />

Breed<strong>in</strong>g Bird survey<br />

• Take part <strong>in</strong> owl prowls, butterfly<br />

and moth surveys, ruffled grouse<br />

survey, song bird survey and a host<br />

<strong>of</strong> other activities.<br />

• Enjoy guest speakers and<br />

presentations<br />

• Receive the Club newsletter twice a<br />

year<br />

• Contribute to the development <strong>of</strong> the<br />

organization<br />

To enhance the water quality <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Little Red Deer River and its watershed<br />

through education and facilitation <strong>of</strong><br />

management procedures <strong>of</strong> all<br />

stakeholders and users <strong>of</strong> the river.<br />

Stakeholders and users <strong>in</strong>clude, but<br />

are not limited to: cattle ranchers, hog<br />

operations, feedlot operators, farmers,<br />

urban sewage treatment plants,<br />

acreage and other land owners and<br />

recreationalists.<br />
