new President looked at Harris Wofford<br />
with his characteristic smile, only the look<br />
was different, more peaceful and nostalgic.<br />
I wonder if he was remembering traveling<br />
around the country with Harris during<br />
the campaign hearing <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> stories.<br />
Whatever he was thinking, the President<br />
was emotional.<br />
I wish I had seen Sen. Wofford’s face<br />
but I was focused on the glowing cube,<br />
Obama’s smile and trying to absorb what it<br />
all meant. The Obamas and Bidens leaned<br />
forward to see us all and our sea of flags. I<br />
felt that we were now Obama’s kids being<br />
ushered in by Kennedy’s kids. And I knew<br />
then that President Obama is going to do<br />
something great for the <strong>Peace</strong> <strong>Corps</strong>.<br />

I’m from Texas and I don’t do cold<br />
weather. So when I first got the e-mail<br />
looking for flag bearers to march in the<br />
inaugural parade, I chuckled and passed it<br />
by. Freezing my you-know-what all day just<br />
to carry a flag, are you kidding? But then<br />
I started thinking how proud I was, with<br />
my rainbow Obama bumper sticker, as well<br />
as how cool it would be to tell the high<br />
school students I teach English as a Second<br />
Language to in Montgomery County,<br />
Maryland. Also, I would love to tell my<br />
Sri Lankan or Honduran friends that I<br />
represented their beautiful countries in front<br />
of the President of the United States! I did an<br />
about-face, registered for the lottery and<br />
then waited for the weather gods to decide<br />
