78 ASWSUS Programs ASWSUS Programs STUDENT GOVERNMENT aswsus.wsu.edu 509-358-7921 spok.aswsu@wsu.edu The ASWSU Spokane provides several programs available to the Spokane campus students. If you have an idea for a new program stop by the ASWSU Spokane office located in SAC 111. Family Programming ASWSUS offers programs and events that cater specifically to students with families. Students are encouraged to provide ideas on programs and events they feel are important. Fitness Membership Subsidy In lieu of a fitness center, Spokane students are offered subsidized memberships to OZ Fitness or the YMCA. Membership sign-ups are available at the ASWSUS office in SAC 111 at the beginning of each semester. Newspaper Program Free copies of both the Spokesman Review and USA Today are provided to Spokane students daily. These newspapers are available in the buildings: the Academic Center, Nursing, Phase One, and Health Sciences. STA Bus Passes ASWSU Spokane offers Spokane students subsidized bus passes for $11 per month. The bus passes are available for purchase monthly at the Parking Services office in the South Campus Facility. Students will also receive two free one-day Green lot parking passes with the purchase of each bus pass. The campus is negotiating to fully fund bus passes. Look for more information this fall! Travel Grants Travel grants are intended to help students travel for the purposes of scholarly activity, research, and in presentation at significant professional meetings. The grants can be used only to defray travel expenses not covered by other sources, including transportation, lodging, and registration fees. UCommute As part of the green initiative for WSU Spokane, UCommute helps encourage you to reduce the number of commutes daily. Mycommute.org is a place where you can keep track of how you get to campus each day. All you have to do is log the days you use a commute alternative to or from the University District, which is easy to do online! Check it out at www.mycommute.org with the WSU school code 7TCRR! Zimride Zimride is a ride sharing program that allows for WSU students, faculty, and staff to arrange carpools. These carpools can either be regular commutes to campus or fun trips to Seattle! Check it out at http://zimride.wsu.edu.
Student Government Leadership 79 Student Government Leadership Executive Committee • President, Lindsey Schaffer spok.aswsu.prez@wsu.edu appoints students to serve on university committees, oversees executive staff, and represents students in University decision-making processes and functions. • Vice President, Lisa Garza spok.aswsu.vp@wsu.edu serves as chair of the ASWSUS Senate, assists the president with developing proposals, and assumes duties of the president in her absence. • Director of Communications, Dan Tran spok.aswsu.media@wsu.edu is responsible for the weekly student newsletter, updating the Facebook page and ASWSUS webpage, responding to emails, and promoting activities on campus. • Director of Programming and Events, AnnAlise Nelson spok.aswsu.events@wsu.edu is responsible for planning, scheduling, and promoting ASWSUS sponsored events. • Director of Programs and Finance, Jay Liu spok.aswsu@wsu.edu is responsible for keeping ASWSUS accountable in the way that funds are being spent, working collaboratively with the director of programming and events in planning the finances of the events, and acting as point of contact for travel grants. • Director of Graduate Affairs and Outreach, Yara Nouisser spok.aswsu.out@wsu. edu is responsible for working with the RSOs on campus as well as representing thegraduate students on the Spokane campus by staying in contact with GPSA and the Graduate School. • Director of Public Policy and Community Outreach, Dana Dweik spok.aswsu.dola@wsu.edu collaborates with the greater Spokane community to provide service learning opportunities to students and, in cooperation with the other WSU campuses, advocates for students’ interests in Olympia. STUDENT GOVERNMENT Elections are held at the beginning of spring and fall semesters. Fall elections are intended to fill vacant positions. Senate meets twice a month and you are expected to serve on committees and post office hours. Senators are given a small compensation at the end of each semester. If you are interested in serving in a Senate position, contact the ASWSUS office for more information!
