Exciting New Developments
Every WDP&R experience shares a commitment to excellence in quality, storytelling and guest service
that has been a hallmark of our organization for more than 50 years. As we continue to expand
our business around the world, our goal is to take the qualities that define the quintessential Disney
experience and ensure that all of our vacation offerings are anchored by those same core attributes.
Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there
is imagination left in the world.” Building on that same spirit, WDP&R has a multitude of exciting new
projects and experiences underway around the world.
At Disneyland Resort, the expansion and re-Imagineering of Disney California Adventure culminated
in June 2012 with the opening of Buena Vista Street, the re-themed entry to the park, and Cars Land,
the all-new 12-acre land that takes guests into the world of the Disney•Pixar film “Cars” and Radiator
Springs.
At Walt Disney World Resort, New Fantasyland opened in December 2012, representing the largest
expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom, and doubling the size of the most popular land in the
most popular Disney park in the world. New Fantasyland takes guests beyond the walls of Cinderella
Castle and features sweeping vistas of two new castles in the Enchanted Forest, Dumbo in a new
Storybook Circus setting, an two new restaurants. Still to come, Princess Fairytale Hall (2013) and the
Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster (2014) will add even more experiences for guests to enjoy.
Hong Kong Disneyland continues to grow with three new lands. Toy Story Land opened in 2011,
bringing guests into the world of Buzz, Woody and all the toys from Andy’s room. Two more lands,
Grizzly Gulch, which opened in July 2012, and Mystic Point, opening in 2013, will be completely
original to Hong Kong.
In Spring 2011, we broke ground on Shanghai Disney Resort with our partner, the Shanghai Shendi
Group. On opening day, this incredible new resort destination will include Shanghai Disneyland, two
themed hotels and a retail, dining and entertainment complex. Shanghai Disney Resort will offer guests
in mainland China an authentic Disney experience but one that is specifically tailored to local customs
and culture. It is currently targeted to open at the end of 2015.
Also in 2011, WDP&R joined forces with visionary filmmaker James Cameron to bring the world of
AVATAR to life at Disney parks, with the first opening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With its emphasis on
living in harmony with nature, Animal Kingdom is a natural fit for the AVATAR stories, which share the
same philosophy. Construction is expected to begin in 2013.
Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, opened its doors to guests in Hawai`i in August 2011. The 21 acre
oceanfront resort is located in the beautiful Ko Olina Resort & Marina development on O`ahu and
contains both regular guest rooms as well as Disney Vacation Club villas.
Community Involvement
At WDP&R, we believe that being a good global citizen means using our companywide resources
to make a positive change in the communities in which we operate. WDP&R supports the well-being
of children and families through charitable contributions to organizations focused on the areas of
creativity, conservation and compassion. WDP&R also collaborates with local organizations and
engages the time and talent of our Cast Members and employees through the Disney VoluntEARS, a
company-sponsored initiative supporting employee volunteerism.
In addition, WDP&R supports the communities in which we operate by creating jobs, consuming local
goods and services, and generating tax revenue. Our commitment to economic development and
diversification has led to successes in local communities and with entrepreneurs starting and growing
their own businesses.
THE Environment
Environmental stewardship has been an important component of our business since the beginning.
Building on this legacy, in 2009 we announced ambitious long-term goals to reduce our environmental
footprint and inspire our Cast and Crew Members, business associates, consumers and guests to
take action to help the planet. Those goals cover six key areas:
Climate and energy
Water
Waste
Product footprint
Ecosystems
Education and action
