<strong>Hempel</strong> delivers for a Polish manufacturer<br />
of cargo railcars<br />
Wagony Swidnica is the biggest exporter of cargo railcars <strong>in</strong> Poland. <strong>Hempel</strong> Poland has<br />
been cooperat<strong>in</strong>g with this company for many years. The manufacturer started us<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
water-borne pa<strong>in</strong>ts from <strong>Hempel</strong> at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of 2003. The ma<strong>in</strong> reason to use our<br />
water-borne pa<strong>in</strong>ts was the regulation on emissions of solvent-borne pa<strong>in</strong>t systems.<br />
Wagony Swidnica orig<strong>in</strong>ally <strong>in</strong>tended to <strong>in</strong>vest only <strong>in</strong> their pa<strong>in</strong>t shop and furnish it with<br />
burners for emissions of solvent-borne pa<strong>in</strong>ts. F<strong>in</strong>ally, they made a compromise and fulfi<br />
lled the conditions of the new regulations by us<strong>in</strong>g suitable <strong>Hempel</strong> water-borne pa<strong>in</strong>ts.<br />
Currently they also use hybrid systems based on WB primer HEMUDUR 18500 and PU<br />
solvent-borne topcoat HEMPATHANE ENAMEL 55100.<br />
Ma<strong>in</strong> requirements of Wagony Swidnica <strong>in</strong>clude high quality of supplied materials, various<br />
certifi cates (DB, SBB, and similar for British Railways), short production/delivery time,<br />
especially for water-borne pa<strong>in</strong>ts. These conditions were also required e.g. <strong>in</strong> terms of the<br />
supply of pa<strong>in</strong>ts for surface protection of steel structures of wood transport cars. The volume<br />
of the order realized <strong>in</strong> 2004 was 12,000 litres; the applicator used the hybrid waterborne<br />
HEMUDUR 18500 (130 μm) and HEMUCRYL ENAMEL 58040 (60 μm) for external<br />
surfaces. Another <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g action was the delivery of 9,000 litres of pa<strong>in</strong>t for protection<br />
of steel structure of coal transport cars, which took place <strong>in</strong> the same year. For these<br />
needs, the water-borne system HEMUDUR 18500 (100 μm) and HEMUCRYL ENAMEL HB<br />
58030 (60 μm) was used, the HEMUDUR 48500 (150 μm) was used for the underbody.<br />
Hyva Lift<br />
Waterborne systems <strong>in</strong> practice<br />
One of <strong>Hempel</strong>’s most signifi cant customers is the Dutch company Hyva Lift, which has<br />
used about 25 000 litres of our company’s water soluble primer s<strong>in</strong>ce 2004. Up to now,<br />
this company, which supplies e.g. components for transportation equipment (e.g. skip<br />
loaders), has pa<strong>in</strong>ted more than 150 000 m 2 with <strong>Hempel</strong> pa<strong>in</strong>ts. The surfaces are prepared<br />
to Sa 2.5 and pa<strong>in</strong>ted with HEMUCRYL PRIMER HI-BUILD 18032 with 40 to 60 μ<br />
thickness; the applicator is the Dutch company Venko based <strong>in</strong> Hoogeveen.<br />
Accord<strong>in</strong>g to the company management, Hyva Lift is highly satisfi ed with the anti-corrosive<br />
properties of the primer. Even if a product pa<strong>in</strong>ted with HEMUCRYL PRIMER HI-BUILD<br />
18032 has been stored for several months <strong>in</strong> outdoor environment and exposed to ra<strong>in</strong> or<br />
snow, the protective properties of the pa<strong>in</strong>t comply with Hyva Lift’s high standards.<br />
Another advantage of the pa<strong>in</strong>t is its low odour level, which suits the construction crews<br />
<strong>in</strong> the plant and enables pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g and production with<strong>in</strong> one shift without diffi culties or<br />
health risks. With regard to grow<strong>in</strong>g demand, the Hyva Lift company plans to start two-shift<br />
operation and to open a similar plant <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a, which br<strong>in</strong>gs further possibilities of use for<br />
the HEMUCRYL 18032 pa<strong>in</strong>t. More <strong>in</strong>formation on www.hyva.com.<br />
HEMUCRYL PRIMER HI-BUILD 18032<br />
It is a water-borne acrylic dispersion pa<strong>in</strong>t with good anti-corrosion properties. It is especially<br />
suitable for airless spray<strong>in</strong>g. As a primer <strong>in</strong> water-borne systems for <strong>in</strong>ternal and<br />
external steel surfaces <strong>in</strong> mild to medium corrosive environments. The pa<strong>in</strong>t can also be<br />
used as a primer <strong>in</strong> water-borne pa<strong>in</strong>t systems for hot-dip galvanized steel surfaces, alum<strong>in</strong>ium,<br />
or sta<strong>in</strong>less steel <strong>in</strong> mild corrosive environments.<br />
