stations is fun, as there is always something different playing
in the week from Merge 104.8’s exceptional presenters:
The Creative Center for Rehabilitation has announced two
workshops in special education, which we think is absolutely
fantastic and much needed in the Sultanate. Both workshops will
start on June 25th for 200 hours, and will be presented in English.
Only 25 participants will be taken for each group, so be quick to
contact them.
Workshop One: The Teachers Aide Workshop will interest anyone
who would like to be a teacher’s aide in a special education
classroom. The instructor for this workshop is Minerva Manuel
(M.ED Special Education).
Workshop 2: Introduction to Special Education will interest parents
and teachers who want to learn about special education. Professor
Nelma Viana (Professor of Special Education) will present the
workshop.
Omani Talent, every Friday with Sami Al Asmi. Sami will
be hosting different Omani Talents from 7pm to 9pm, and
the idea is to get to know about local talents. Sami’s charm
will no doubt introduce exciting people every week, so tune
in as you might just know that person on air!
Dr. Kawthar Al-Balushi, the founder of the Center tells us that these
workshops are designed to benefit anyone that is interested in
learning about children with disabilities.
She said, "In the first workshop, we will introduce special education
to the community, and what it is and what are the theories we work
with children within a special education setting. We will discuss all
kinds of disabilities, such as autism, Down’s syndrome, different
types of mental retardation, learning difficulties, the importance
of early intervention as well as IEPs and how they are used. This
workshop will be very beneficial to parent that have handicapped
children. The instructor is a Professor of Special Education, with
over 21 years experience working in the special education field.
We are also giving another workshop for Omanis and expats for
teacher’s aide. In this workshop they will learn how to work with
children that have different kinds of disabilities and how they can
help them within the classroom setting. We are hoping to take two
of the best from this group and place them as teachers' aides in
our classes."
