WEST SUBURBAN YMCA MISSION<br />
The West Suburban YMCA is a non-profit community service organization devoted to the<br />
education, physical health, mental well-being, and moral development of children, families and<br />

GENERAL FUNCTION:<br />
<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Director</strong> will directly supervise and effectively lead the unit staff and those<br />
programmatic aspects of Resident Camp that are not under the direct supervision of the<br />
<strong>Director</strong> of Camp Operations. <strong>Program</strong> <strong>Director</strong> will provide a safe and nurturing environment<br />
for campers and staff and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp<br />
activities.<br />
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:<br />
Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and one’s peers outdoors<br />
Prior camp experience as a program or administrative staff member<br />
Ability to create, schedule, organize, and implement daily, weekend, and special programs<br />
i.e. Color War, Plaque Races, field trips.<br />
Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable<br />
At least 21 years old, valid driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record<br />
Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications<br />
<strong>JOB</strong> SEGMENTS:<br />
1. Actively participate in and lead portions of All Staff Training.<br />
2. Inform the <strong>Director</strong> of Camp Operations of any camper or staff problems, issues, or<br />
concerns.<br />
3. Ensure unit staff are enforcing and following all rules and are fulfilling all of their assigned<br />
duties.<br />
4. Able to walk around camp daily and formally evaluate program staff on their abilities twice a<br />
summer.<br />
5. Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical<br />
safety of any person.<br />
6. Plan & oversee camper surveys, campers changing activity periods, wake up call, meals,<br />
flag raising/lowering, announcements, campfires, candlelight ceremonies, weekend &<br />
evening programs, staffing for emergency medical transportation, and other events with staff<br />
as appropriate.
7. Ensure the <strong>Program</strong> Office is kept clean.<br />
8. Plan for and provide an atmosphere of high staff morale.<br />
9. Maintain camper log books and distribute attendance sheets and other paperwork on time.<br />
10. Approve all lesson plans not overseen by Waterfront <strong>Director</strong> and monitor teaching quality.<br />
11. Schedule staff assignments, time off w/ Unit <strong>Director</strong>s, changeover weekends, lifeguard<br />
schedules w/ Waterfront <strong>Director</strong>, daily clean up areas on camp, and other events.<br />
12. Plan rainy day activities in advance of their need.<br />
13. Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all<br />
campers and staff.<br />
14. Follow all camp rules and regulations and enforce them among peers.<br />
15. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.<br />
16. Submit all required paperwork on time.<br />
17. Perform other duties as assigned.<br />

and nurturing environment.<br />
2. To the extent that equipment and facilities are kept in good repair and condition.<br />
3. To the extent that each program segment will be the highest quality for everyone to<br />
experience enjoyment and success.
