WEST SUBURBAN YMCA MISSION
The West Suburban YMCA is a non-profit community service organization devoted to the
education, physical health, mental well-being, and moral development of children, families and

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Program Director will directly supervise and effectively lead the unit staff and those
programmatic aspects of Resident Camp that are not under the direct supervision of the
Director of Camp Operations. Program Director will provide a safe and nurturing environment
for campers and staff and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp
activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and one’s peers outdoors
Prior camp experience as a program or administrative staff member
Ability to create, schedule, organize, and implement daily, weekend, and special programs
i.e. Color War, Plaque Races, field trips.
Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable
At least 21 years old, valid driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record
Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications
JOB SEGMENTS:
1. Actively participate in and lead portions of All Staff Training.
2. Inform the Director of Camp Operations of any camper or staff problems, issues, or
concerns.
3. Ensure unit staff are enforcing and following all rules and are fulfilling all of their assigned
duties.
4. Able to walk around camp daily and formally evaluate program staff on their abilities twice a
summer.
5. Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical
safety of any person.
6. Plan & oversee camper surveys, campers changing activity periods, wake up call, meals,
flag raising/lowering, announcements, campfires, candlelight ceremonies, weekend &
evening programs, staffing for emergency medical transportation, and other events with staff
as appropriate.

7. Ensure the Program Office is kept clean.
8. Plan for and provide an atmosphere of high staff morale.
9. Maintain camper log books and distribute attendance sheets and other paperwork on time.
10. Approve all lesson plans not overseen by Waterfront Director and monitor teaching quality.
11. Schedule staff assignments, time off w/ Unit Directors, changeover weekends, lifeguard
schedules w/ Waterfront Director, daily clean up areas on camp, and other events.
12. Plan rainy day activities in advance of their need.
13. Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all
campers and staff.
14. Follow all camp rules and regulations and enforce them among peers.
15. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.
16. Submit all required paperwork on time.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
