We are interested in mentoring medical residents. My research investigates the role of oncogene
transcription factors, in particular the c-Rel proto-oncogene, in the immune system and in tumorigenesis.
An ongoing project is to investigate the mechanism by which Rel/NF-kB is involved in the pathogenesis
of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma. Our studies have provided first
proof-of-concept that c-Rel is an exciting therapeutic target for inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and
transplantation rejection. My team is currently developing inhibitors of oncogenic transcription factors
with the goal to develop novel therapies for autoimmune diseases and cancer.
