More than 70 % of the lead presently in circulation
is recycled and more than three quarters of the lead
production is used for manufacturing car batteries.
Consequently, the recovery and recycling of car
batteries and accumulators used for industrial
purposes is a crucial factor in maintaining a

The Braubach based BERZELIUS Logistik Service
GmbH (BLS) with its subsidiaries in Regenstauf,
Freiberg, Kornwestheim and Gelsenkirchen recovers
and recycles batteries throughout Germany.
As member of BERZELIUS Metall GmbH located in
Braubach, BLS comprises the last stage in making
lead recycling into an integral, closed loop.
The customised logistic solutions offered by BLS
guarantee an efficient recovery and recycling of
used batteries, conforming to a high qualitative
and environment-friendly standard. Competent
consultations, an own pool of about 30 most modern
and very specialised vehicles, variable collection
systems, an interim storage facility in accordance with
the BImSchG (federal immission protection law) as
well as daily transports to the group’s own technically
advanced treatment plants are factors which help in
ensuring a responsible execution of processes.
Manufacturers of cars and batteries rely on this, as do
trade, commerce and public authorities for more than

RANGE OF ACTIVITIES
Accumulators are essential for the functioning of cars,
industrial trucks or industrial equipment. Therefore,
an efficient disposal of these accumulators at the end
of their lifecycles is a major value enhancement factor
for the operating company.

professionally prepared waste balance sheets

Disposal
Truck Fleet
The company’s own modern vehicle pool includes
skip semi-trailers with rolling containers for loose
fillings having capacities of up to 20 t, trucks with
stowable forklift trucks for loading paloxes, large
containers or pallets for total weights of 25 t as well
as skip semi-trailers with 25 t containers for collecting
loose fillings from battery containers.
Recovery products
Petrol filling stations, workshops or retail markets
stack car batteries in collecting containers 1 m 3 in
size, so that they are tilt and slide proofed, thereby
preventing damaging or short-circuiting of the used
batteries. These collecting containers, the so-called
paloxes, are supplied by BLS and, when the need
arises, substituted. Alternatively, the customer’s
own containers with loose fillings are emptied into
large containers. Larger companies use 25 tonnes
containers or euro-pallets in which up to 60 batteries
may be stacked at a time.

For picking up the used batteries, the BERZELIUS
Logistik Service GmbH employs its own specialised
vehicles, chosen to suit the specific requirements of
the individual customers.

TRANSPORT
BLS transports the collected used batteries to the
recycling plants of the BERZELIUS group where these
are separated into pure fractions to be utilised
as secondary raw materials much in demand by
numerous industries, with lead being the main
product.

INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMER SYSTEMS
BERZELIUS Logistik Service GmbH is specialist in the
orderly recovery of used starter and traction batteries
as well as stationary accumulators – other battery
systems on request – from all over Germany.
The branch-specific solutions, coupled with adaptable
collection systems offered by the company, make
an economical and reliable transport to the pretreatment
plants possible. If so desired, the BLS can
also supply battery collection containers fulfilling
the legal statutes and having a capacity of 600 l and
dimensions of 100 x 120 x 70 cm and with sufficient
space for about 50 starter batteries. These containers
are available with lids for outside placements or
without lids for internal placements. The individual
arrangements regarding scheduling and professional
pickup of small amounts of loose fillings, containers
or euro-pallets allow customers to plan reliably.
TYPES OF CUSTOMERS
Car and battery manufacturers as well as industrial
and other commercial organisations rely on the
integral service and area-wide pickup offered by BLS
for recovery at their plants and sales departments.
The clientele of satisfied customers also includes
governmental and semi state-run or private
institutions, trademark-oriented and independent
garages, petrol stations, brokers, or municipal wastedisposal
organisations.
