Unit Commentary:<br />
This unit is about underst<strong>and</strong>ing the requirements of British Film Certification <strong>and</strong> the process<br />
in completion <strong>and</strong> submission of the <strong>claim</strong> <strong>for</strong> UK Film Tax Credit to the UK Film Council who<br />
act on behalf of the DCMS.<br />
You would be expected to be familiar with the Cultural Test procedure in order to assess a<br />
production’s probability of achieving <strong>tax</strong> <strong>credit</strong> status <strong>and</strong> the implication that this would have<br />
on the funding structure of the production.<br />
Key Outcomes<br />
1. Establish the potential eligibility of a Production to qualify <strong>for</strong> the UK Film Tax Credit.<br />
2. Prepare UK Cultural Test application.<br />

You underst<strong>and</strong> relevant ideas <strong>and</strong> methods to:<br />
• Access relevant in<strong>for</strong>mation that is to be examined <strong>for</strong> qualification.<br />

• Underst<strong>and</strong> the procedures involved in the process from application through to<br />
completion<br />
• Identify <strong>and</strong> calculate the implications of the UK Film Tax Credit to the budget <strong>and</strong> cashflow<br />
of the production.<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance Criteria<br />
In order to prepare <strong>and</strong> <strong>complete</strong> an application to qualify <strong>for</strong> the UK <strong>film</strong> <strong>tax</strong> <strong>credit</strong> you need<br />
to show that you:<br />
a) Identify qualifying elements of a production<br />
b) Complete accurately necessary DCMS paperwork <strong>and</strong> demonstrate points accrual in<br />
each designated category.<br />
c) Prepare <strong>and</strong> maintain accurate accounting records of qualifying UK spend throughout<br />
the pre-production, shoot <strong>and</strong> post-production periods.<br />
d) Submit interim <strong>complete</strong>d application <strong>for</strong>m including:<br />
Script & Synopsis in English<br />
Shooting schedule<br />
Budget<br />
Copy of Chain of Title<br />
e) Commission an audit of production accounts in order to make final submission<br />
