Comprehensive assessments are conducted for all children and families referred to CGC. An interdisciplinary team reviews the assessment and develops a treatment plan tailored to meet the individual needs of each child and family. Specialized evaluations, such as developmentals for preschoolers, psychological and neuropsychological testing, and psychiatric assessments, are provided to understand more complex situations.Treatment services include individual, group, or family therapy, parent guidance and play therapy, or medications as needed. Care coordination services are provided to assist families in accessing other community services to meet the multiple needs of the child and family. Emergency Mobile Crisis Services – Since 1987, the Crisis program has provided immediate mental health assessment and crisis stabilization services for children and adolescents experiencing serious psychiatric symptoms or severe reactions to a recent traumatic event.With a special focus on youth suicide prevention, mobile services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, successfully intervening with many critically disturbed youngsters, avoiding the more costly and disruptive alternatives of hospitalization and out-of-home placement. Specially trained Child Guidance Center therapists conduct investigative interviews at the request of the police or the state child protection agency and provide crisis therapy for the child and supportive services for the family to help them cope with the trauma of victimization.This team was the first in Connecticut to achieve national accreditation and services as a model program in New England, providing training throughout the region.
