SIA-SSB is the trustworthy IT partner

Each and every European Bank knows
that SIA-SSB is the EBA technological
partner for STEP2, only few banks
are aware that the STEP2 platform
is natively multinetwork, and, since
2003, reachable through SWIFTNet
and SIAnet.
SIAnet goes Europe
Since 2003 many Banks have
leveraged SIAnet for CREDEURO
payments in STEP2. Today SIAnet is
available to all Banks in Europe, to
transfer SEPA instruments (SCT and
SDD) across the European financial
community.
Back in 1986 SIA deployed on its
network the Italian Interbank Network
to pave the way to the payment
systems automation, allowing all
the then existing Italian banks to be
connected electronically.
After the automation of the Italian
payment system, SIAnet has
easened the automation of the
trading activities on the Italian Stock
Exchange first and the Government
Bond Market MTS and the Interbank
Money Market e-MID thereafter.
Today SIAnet manages 366 network
connections to the Italian financial
institutions and more than 245
connection to financial institutions
in Europe, connecting the remote
members in 22 countries to the
above mentioned trading platforms.

The privacy compliant
network
for the European
Community
SIAnet guarantees a full compliance
with respect to the EU data
protection directives 95/46/EC
and 2002/58/EC, and subsequent
resolution of the European
Parliament requesting the European
payment system to comply with
the data protection laws. Thanks
to its peer-to-peer architectural
design that requires the financial
institutions intervention to access
the transaction data stored on the
equipment in the customer premises,
SIA-SSB cannot access or distribute
the content of the transactions
carried, without its customers formal
approval.
SIAnet: the technological

handled over 8,000 billions bytes,

SIAnet Domain: segregated
services on shared infrastructure
Multiple dedicated domain can be
defined over SIAnet, that allows to
create for each domain a segregated

The Message Switching Service
The Message Switching Service (MSS)
allows the interchange of electronic
messages between users.
Basically, the Message Switching
Service can be compared to the
exchange of SMS messages between
telephone users, but in this case
the exchange is between bank
applications that use the messages
for specific purposes such as a bank
transfer between two accounts in two
different banks.
The MSS Service guarantees the
message delivery to the addressee in
the same chronological order as the
sender issued them, and also ensures
prompt delivery with authentication,
recording and delivery confirmation
functions.
The File Transfer Service
The File Transfer Service (FTS) allows
the interchange of files carrying either
bulked instructions or electronic
documents between users.
Basically, the File Transfer Service
can be compared to an e-mail service
in which the users, prepare files and
send them to the FTS service.
The FTS service, as well as
guaranteeing delivery of accepted
files to addressees, also has

authentication, recording, compression
and delivery confirmation functions.
The Transactional Service
The Transactional Transport Service
(TRS) allows immediate transactions
exchange between users in an
interactive synchronous way.
Basically, the Transactional Transport
Service can be compared to a
telephone conversation between two
users who want to agree on a certain
activity, but in this case the users are
bank applications, one of which – for
example – wants to know immediately
if the other is interested in the quote
on the listing. The main feature
SIAnet: ONE-STOP-SHOP APPROACH
of this service is its processing
speed; indeed SIAnet transactional
services are widely used in the cards
authorisation and in the trading
activities, where the time is a critical
success factor.
