What Do You Think?
One of the issues raised
during Heller’s 45th
anniversary conference
was the increasing
importance of transparency
in organizational
life, and the management
challenges that this
raises. No longer can
managers easily conduct
business or make decisions
behind a curtain —
rather they are required
to do so in a fishbowl.
Every action needs to
withstand the scrutiny of
internal and external
stakeholders, including
employees, board
members, funders, governmental
agencies, and
community members.
Rapid information
exchange via the internet
creates additional transparency.
What are your
ideas for how managers
can effectively conduct
business given this new
environment?
