Lady Marion
Marion Eng was one of the first Senior
Companions in Rapid City, serving from
1998–2000 before becoming a client herself. A
daughter of one of Marion’s clients wrote the
following poem in appreciation for her work.

Lady Marion

A very special lady
Came into our family.
It was as tho’ God planned it,
And, it was meant to be.
This lovely, little lady
Filled a very big need,
When we needed help for Mother,
And, Marion agreed.
So, she goes to visit Mondays,
And on Friday mornings, too.
If it were not for Marion,
I don’t know what we’d do.
She does kind things for Mother,
Takes her cinnamon rolls, too.
She knows how Mother loves them.
What a special thing to do.
She does the grocery shopping,
Getting such good things to eat.
Even takes her casseroles
For another welcome treat.
They might chat about the weather,
Or, when we kids were small.
And, it doesn’t even matter.
Mother loves it all.
Sometimes they go on “treasure hunts”
When something’s “put away.”
I can see the two of them,
Like little girls at play.
And then, they get the giggles,
When they’ve looked and looked some more.
Then, Mother says to Marion,
“What are we looking for?”
It isn’t just for Mother,
That our world’s a better place.
But, she has such kind compassion
And, such understanding grace.
They often walk out in the halls,
To exercise a bit.
Sometimes they sit and visit,
Maybe sometimes, they just sit.
I can hear the conversation:
“Let’s get toenails cut today.”
“But, I don’t really need to,
Let’s just cancel it, okay?”
“Are you ready with your knee highs on?”
“I don’t know where they are.”
“Let’s see if we can find them,
Where have you looked so far?”
So, they searched and searched together
’Til their time was almost gone.
Then Marion discovered
That Mother had them on.
You’ve made our lives much easier.
More than I can say.
Knowing she is in “good hands,”
While we’re so far away.
I’ve rambled on a long time.
But I just want you to see
That you are such a Blessing
To our whole family.
Mother really does look forward
To the time that you can spend.
You’re a most important person,
Lady Marion, our friend.
