The concert will feature HowieGamber, a local country musician. Howie will performa variety <strong>of</strong> new and old country standards along withwaltzes and polkas.Howie Gamber is from Huron, S.D. Howie began hismusical career as a teenager playing guitar with TheScramblers. He then formed his own group, theHowie Gamber Band, and has opened for TommyCash, Marvin Rainwater, Jimmy Bowen, Wynn Stewartand, most recently, Tracy Lawrence and The ForesterSisters. In 2006, Howie was inducted into theSouth Dakota Country Music Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame. spotlightWestern Heights Residents Benefit From Senior CompanionsWestern Heights Apartmentsprovide affordable, independentliving for Sioux Falls seniors andindividuals with limitations. Eightyone-bedroom apartments areavailable, some with handicapaccessibility. Rental assistanceis available for those who qualify,and vouchers are welcome.Western Heights <strong>of</strong>fers manyservices to its residents, includingan on-site manager, noonmeals, free grocery delivery, abeauty salon, a monthly bloodpressure clinic, educational sessionsand a resident council.Apartment services also includean on-site pr<strong>of</strong>essional servicecoordinator, Melissa Webb, wholinks residents to community resourcesand <strong>of</strong>fers advocacy andsupport. Melissa brings in speakersto inform residents abouthealth and wellness issues andeducate them about programsavailable to them.Melilssa is a licensed socialworker, as well, and provides residentreferrals to the Senior CompanionProgram. Companionshelp residents prepare meals,accompany them on walks, takethem to medical appointmentsand help them shop for groceriesand run errands. They also visit,play cards, read mail to clientsor help them pay bills whentheir vision is failing. This allowsresidents to remain independentin their own homes for a longerperiod <strong>of</strong> time.Melissa Webb“Senior Companions <strong>of</strong>fercompanionship and help residentsget to appointments andstores they would not be able to,”says Melissa.
