F requently Asked Questions
Q. What is the cost of long-term care?
A. The cost of care is determined by assessing the needs of each individual resident and evaluating the
amount of care necessary to meet those needs. Medicare, Medicaid and/or long-term care insurance
can significantly influence the amount of out-of-pocket expenses.
Q. What is Medicare?
A. Medicare is the federal government’s health insurance program for people 65 years of age and older. It
also covers many people who are disabled.
Q. I have Medicare, so will it cover my entire stay at the Good Samaritan Society?
A. Medicare Part A provides coverage for services in a skilled nursing facility under certain conditions.
The following criteria must be met to quality for Part A coverage under Medicare:
The resident must:
• Be hospitalized for three consecutive days before coming to Hutchinson Village
• Need the services of the Rehabilitation/Skilled Care on a daily basis
• Be admitted to the Rehabilitation/Skilled Care within 30 days after discharge from the hospital
• Have the services ordered by their physician
• Have the benefit days remaining in the benefit period
The Social Service department can clarify Medicare coverage and explain if Medicare
will be paying for services.
Q. If I qualify for Medicare Part A, will it pay for my entire stay at Hutchinson Village?
A. If all Medicare criteria are met, a maximum of 100 days of skilled nursing care may be covered.
Part A will pay 100% of the first 20 days of skilled nursing care. (It may be possible that skilled
days have been used at the hospital or another care facility.) The resident (or another payment source
such as Medicaid, insurance, etc.) is liable for daily coinsurance for the next 80 days. The resident
must continue to qualify for Medicare services to be eligible for the entire 100-day coverage. Specific
guidelines will be explained individually.
F requently Asked Questions Continued
Q. Can I come to the Good Samaritan Society for a short-term rehab stay and then return to my home?
A. Absolutely! Many of our residents have come for therapy and strengthening after an injury or fall.
Q. What is Medicaid?
A. Medicaid is a government long-term health program aimed at those who need long-term care and
who meet financial limits for assistance with payments. If you have financial concerns, please contact
your financial advisor or the Social Service Department.
Q. May a person use his or her personal physician?
A. We encourage you to use your personal physician if he/she practices locally. Your care is important to
us, and we want your physician to be able to have regular contact with you and monitor your health
needs. If you need to find a local physician, our Social Service department can help with that referral.
Q. If I am planning to stay for a long period of time, can I bring my own furnishings?
A. We encourage you to make your room your own with decorations and furnishings, understanding that
space and safety need to be considered. We may need to use one of our beds to assist our staff with the
care you deserve.
Q. Are cable TV and phone service provided?
A. Basic cable is provided in all of our rooms. There is a phone outlet
in all rooms; it is the resident/family’s responsibility to contact the
phone company to establish services. Social Services can assist if
contact information is needed.
