Game Night
January 8th @ 6:00 pm
Come on out for a night of games and fellowship
with your church family, on January 8th at
6:00 pm, in the Bible Class Room. There will
be games for all ages and interests. If you have a
special game that you like to play, please bring it
along. Cards, dominos, board games galore will
be featured. Enjoy special coffees, soft drinks,
and popcorn. Feel free to bring your own dessert
to share for the evening. This is a great way for
your whole family to come out and get to know
your church family better.

Pretty Cunningham
Sunday, January 16th, following Sunday School,
BBQ will be served. It will be cooked by Gus &
Kristy Smith, The Kilowatt Cookers who have won
at the Rodeo cook-offs. Donations are appreciated
to help Pretty’s Multiple Sclerosis treatment in
California, March 14th. None of this is covered
by her Medicare insurance. If you would like to

Altar Guild
New Year Meeting
Monday, January 17th @ 7pm
1008 Richelieu
All ladies are welcome to attend the annual Altar Guild meeting in the home of Debbie White.
Refreshments will be served and a brief meeting recapping the holidays and communion duty. Altar
Guild is always looking for new communion team members. Please consider serving in this way.
Each team only has to serve a few times a year. Altar Guild is also responsible for heading up church
decorations at Christmas & Easter. The annual Mother-Daughter banquet is the one fund-raiser.
After the meeting Secret Sisters will be revealed and redrawn for those who would like to participate.
A Secret Sister remembers you in prayer and remembrances at holidays... You can pick up an info
sheet in the church office prior to the meeting. If you would like to participate but can’t attend the
meeting, give your filled out SS form to Loretta, in the church office, prior to the 17th.
Thanks to all the OSL members/families who helped decorate the church on the 12th. The turnout
was awesome & really appreciated. Bless you for your work to enhance our church.

Astute Steward
‘Happy New Year’ is a greeting that we hear often during the time between late December and early January.
And it is a fitting greeting because we move from calendar year 2010 to 2011. However, the Christian Church
Year begins with the first Sunday in Advent (which in 2010 was on November 28.)
Why bring this up? The answer has to do with the reality that we Christians actually live in two different
cultures—a secular culture and a spiritual culture. The secular culture is the world we live in and specifically
the United States of America; the spiritual culture in which we live is the kingdom of God. These two cultures
have very different values, especially in regard to Christian stewardship.
In our secular culture we are led to believe that we are owners of all the “things” we have. That means, among
other things, that we are free to do whatever we want with our possessions and don’t have to give an account to
anyone. As members of the kingdom of God we are instructed by the teachings from the Bible. The Bible gives us a
very different perspective on ownership because it teaches us that God is the Owner of all things (Psalm 24:1) and
we are managers of all that God has entrusted to our care. Excerpt from LCMS Stewardship Newsletter
I’m including a new feature in this month’s “Astute Steward.” Here is a Stewardship Testimonial that someone
in our congregation sent me that I felt the need to share:
“We grew up in the Lutheran Church, but didn’t really have any idea on what God thought about, much less
expected of us with regards to money management or stewardship. As my wife and I grew in our relationship
with Christ Jesus, we became aware of our unfaithfulness in our giving to God. While we desired to give more
than we had been, there always seemed to be reasons that we could not such as car payments and credit card bills;
then came really good reasons such as children, doctor bills, the mortgage, and school tuition. And just when it
seemed that God truth was getting through to us, doubt crept into our hearts in the form of bills that exceeded
our income (the fruit of unfaithful finances) and “Christian messages” saying that tithing was no longer a
requirement in the new testament times. So, on we lived, believing lies and half-truths, but not experiencing the
joy found in being obedient to God in our finances.
A turning point in our lives came when we became members of OSL Church and enrolled our children in OSL
School. We faced the truth of God’s word that the “tithe” or 10% of our gross income was really the start point
in our giving. We really knew this all along, but had been deceiving ourselves with the message that was most
convenient to our finances at the time, which seemed to be getting only worse. We knew that we could no longer
continue to rob God, but had to start living in obedience to Him financially. We did so, not knowing how we
could, but certain that God would help us. And, He has! He has provided and continues to provide! We have
learned so much in the area of Biblical financial principles, and have been blessed in applying them to our lives
and teaching them to our children so that they start their lives right before God who provides so far above and
beyond our needs.
When we attended “Financial Peace University” we were already on the right track, but it was so good to hear
God’s principles put into simple “do-able” processes that we were able to employ ourselves. We are now almost
debt free, and that’s a great feeling. But more important is the joy and peace and contentment we have in being
obedient to Him in our finances, rather than the guilt & worry & discontent that had been there before. God has
worked a miracle in our finances and in our hearts and our thanks to Him bring us tears of joy and desire to
continually give more & more! I am reminded that God tells us in Malachi 3 to test Him in this area (only this
area) and encourage you to do so, for you will learn as we did, that God is indeed faithful to His word!”

Finally, remember that we should not view stewardship as a task that we have to do, but rather
something that we get to do with the understanding that “Christian stewardship is the free
and joyous activity of the child of God and God’s family, the church, in managing all of life and
life’s resources for God’s purposes.”

People who must flee their homes quickly often
do not have time to pack essential items. LWR
health kits can help children, men, and women
who are refugees maintain personal hygiene
while living in exile. Items may also contribute

have a pot-luck lunch followed by fellowship

and/or dominoes. Mark your calendars for
Wednesday, January 19, we will be looking
for you!
2011 CONTRIBUTION
ENVELOPES:
The 2011 envelopes will be delivered bi-monthly
to each of your homes. If you have any changes
to make once you receive them, please let the
church office know as soon as possible. Any
changes / corrections will be submitted for
the next shipment in February. If you would
like to use a “Billpay” type of method, as many
members already do, please let us know and we
will no longer send them to your home. If you do
not receive your box within the next 2-3 weeks
and feel like you should be getting them, notify
Sandy in the church office.
2011 Service Teams
The new Those to Serve schedule will be in the
works soon. If you would like to be added to
or taken off a team please let the church office
know by January 15th. Teams to consider serving
your church are: Carts, Greeters, Sound, Ushers,
Altar Guild & Friday morning bulletin collating.
Usually it just takes a couple hours once a month
of service for most of these teams. Altar Guild,
Carts & Greeters just a few times a year!

The new flower chart is on the hutch in the
narthex. Only 2 arrangements are available
each Sunday for $25 each. Note your name and
if you want to keep them (W), or if you would
rather send them to the sick (S). You will get a
reminder in the mail.

A BRICK TOWARDS WASHINGTON DC . . .
To raise funds for the annual 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. we are having a brick walkway
fund-raiser. Buy a brick and become a permanent part of their walk through American history.
This walkway will go from the church to the school to underline the importance of our Christian
beliefs in American government.
We hope that you, your family and/or friends will want to be a part of something that will last for
years to come. Our walkway will celebrate and commemorate many special people, occasions and
milestones within our families.
Bricks will be ordered in lots of at least 100 at
a time, to ensure these prices, please place your
orders as soon as possible. This will be an ongoing
fund-raiser to continue our pathways for
8th graders to come. Pick up forms in the church

Letters —
To our Friends in Christ at Our Savior,
Manny, Travis and I would like to thank
everyone in our Church family for their prayers,
calls, meals and support during the last year
concerning Manny’s need for a liver transplant
and the preparation for that event. Needless
to say this was a shock like one we had never
experienced. There were some bumps along
the way.
As many of you know, he received his new liver
on October 11th. What a blessing from God,
the master Physician. We certainly had a lot to
be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
We would like to specifically thank Pastor White
for his hospital visits and prayers prior and
after the surgery. He prayed with us that God,
the Master Physician, would guide the hands
of the surgeons and he did just that. We are so
blessed.
Manny is doing fine and we can now begin a
new chapter. He should be able to attend church
very soon and thank you all in person.
What a blessing to have a church family like we
have. We are truly blessed. Thanks again and
many blessings to you all.
