5 reasons you need a regular doctor
WE ALL LIVE SUCH FAST-PACED
LIVES that, when we get sick, the only
thing we’re interested in is seeing the
closest doctor to get the medication we
need fast. But Dr Uri Scelwyn from
the team of experienced GPs at Omega
Health Medical Centre explains why
your family needs a regular doctor:
1. You get more familiar with
your doctor
“Your first appointment is all about
working out if you like the doctor.
“It’s vital that you feel comfortable
talking to your doctor about all of your
health issues because they need to
understand your body just as much as
you so they can always help you be as
healthy as possible.”
2. You’ll spend less money on
hospital treatment
“It’s considerably cheaper to go to
your doctor than to end up in hospital
suffering a preventable condition such
as diabetes or heart disease.
“Think of your body like a car: it needs
regular maintenance to identify any
potential problems before they become
major health dramas.”
3. You get a better idea of your
overall health
“Everybody is unique. We all have
different health needs, different
allergies, and different metabolisms.
“Having a regular doctor will help
you understand your body’s needs
– whether it’s an increase in certain
vitamins, more exercise, or whether
you’re more prone to certain medical
conditions.
4. Your GP can track your
progress
“Your doctor has the experience and
expertise to recognise changes in your
body that you may not have even
noticed. They will monitor how well
your health is progressing, and provide
you with sound medical advice to keep
you on track.”
5. GPs will refer you on to
specialists for more specific
medical issues
“Your GP has a broad range of medical
knowledge relating to all common
illnesses and conditions. They know
when you need specialist medical
treatment, and are able to refer you on
to specialists who they trust to give
you the extra care you need”
