Born from racing, the all-new X-Twelve combines <strong>Shoei</strong>’s 50 years of helmet<br />

building experience with the very latest technology and most advanced materials<br />

to bring you the racing helmet of the future. Throughout its history, <strong>Shoei</strong> has<br />

relied on feedback from professional racers around the globe to continually<br />

improve its products, and everything learned along the way has now culminated<br />

in the finest motorcycle racing helmet ever developed—the all-new X-Twelve!<br />

Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self-Adjusting) Base Plate System<br />

SHOEI’s Quick Release Self-Adjusting (QRSA) base plate system includes<br />

a locking mechanism that allows you to change visors faster than any other<br />

helmet available!<br />

The QRSA maintains its predecessor’s easy-to-use features—split-second<br />

visor release and attachment, and visor preset lever. SHOEI’s new patented<br />

new spring-loaded technology featured in the QRSA eliminates the need<br />

to adjust base plates for proper sealing. Every time the shield is lowered,<br />

the spring-loaded base plates pull the shield back to contact the window<br />

beading evenly, ensuring a perfect wind and waterproof seal every time!<br />

CW-1 Shield<br />

The all-new CW-1 shield offers greater vertical and peripheral vision than<br />

ever before. In addition, the CW-1 shield protects SHOEI riders from 99% of<br />

the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, and our three-dimensional injectionmolding<br />

process ensures optically perfect, distortion free vision. Another<br />

advantage is it comes with pins for SHOEI’s optional Pinlock system! Insert<br />

the accessory Pinlock film to deliver fog-free vision in any conditions. The new<br />

CW-1 Pinlock lens is 30% larger, and offers fog-free viewing to the very top of<br />

the helmet’s larger eye port.<br />

Multi-Channel Ventilation System<br />

The X-Twelve features the most complex ventilation system available in<br />

any helmet - five (5) intake and ten (10) exhaust vents, making it the most<br />

aggressively ventilated helmet SHOEI has ever produced. Wind tunnel<br />

testing identified the very best locations and shapes of intake and exhaust<br />

ports to maximize airflow, including the suction effect that’s created as low<br />

pressure air travels toward the rear of the helmet. With this in mind, the<br />

X-Twelve features new Side Extractor Vents developed by our MotoGP<br />

racing service to help clear warm, humid air from the racer’s face.<br />

AIM+ Shell Construction (Snell M2010-Approved)<br />

SHOEI’s unique AIM+ technology combines fibreglass with organic fibres that are<br />

so strong they can only be cut with a laser. The end result is a stronger, lighter<br />

shell that will absorb and distribute massive impact forces safely and efficiently.

E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick<br />

Release System)<br />

Mechanical tabs disengage cheek pads<br />

for easy removal by emergency medical<br />

personnel. Helmet can be removed with<br />

minimum load to rider in emergency<br />

situations.<br />

Breath Guard<br />

The breath guard can be inserted into the<br />

upper edge of the chin bar to help reduce<br />

fogging by diverted exhausted breath down<br />

out the bottom of the helmet.<br />

3D Max Dry Interior<br />

System<br />

The X-Twelve is equipped with<br />

a fully removable, washable,<br />

and replaceable 3D Max Dry<br />

liner. SHOEI’s proprietary Max<br />

Dry material has been proven<br />

to absorb and dissipate sweat<br />

twice as fast as traditional<br />

nylon interiors. In addition, the<br />

X-Twelve’s interior components<br />

Aero Edge 2 Spoiler<br />

The X-Twelve’s Aero Edge<br />

2 Spoiler helps minimize lift at<br />

high speeds, and thus wind drag<br />

from the rider and motorcycle.<br />

In addition, increased negative<br />

air pressure improves exhaust<br />

performance to help ventilate<br />

the helmet.<br />

Chin Curtain<br />

The chin curtain can be<br />

Interior System<br />

The XR-1100 is equipped with a fully removable, washable, and replaceable<br />

3D center pad and multi-layer cheek pads. The XR-1100’s 3D center<br />

pad components are three-dimensionally shaped to match the contours<br />

of a rider’s head. This 3D fitment allows us to provide a helmet with an<br />

extremely comfortable fit, while maintaining the firm hold that is necessary<br />

for distraction-free, high-speed riding. The XR-1100’s multi-layer cheek<br />

pads are available in six different thicknesses to allow riders to customize<br />

the fit of their new helmet. In addition, the liner features eye-glass channels<br />

and an integrated neck pad.<br />

Shell-Integrated Spoiler<br />

New shell forming technology created during the development of SHOEI’s<br />

groundbreaking VFX-W motocross helmet has allowed SHOEI to eliminate<br />

the need for the plastic Aero Wing that was found on the XR-1000. This new<br />

technology has allowed SHOEI to incorporate the aerodynamic advantages of a<br />

spoiler into the shell of the helmet, while maintaining consistent shell thickness<br />

to guarantee perfect strength and weight. This shell-integrated spoiler works to<br />

reduce lift during high-speed riding, just like the spoiler on a sports car.<br />

5 Shell Sizes<br />

While some of our competitors rely on foam padding for fitting a wide range<br />

of customers, SHOEI offers an industry-leading five shell sizes in the new<br />

XR-1100 to ensure a custom fit for heads between the sizes of XS-XXXL.<br />

CW-1 Visor<br />

The all-new CW-1 shield offers greater vertical and<br />

peripheral vision than the CX-IV that it replaces. In<br />

addition, the CW-1 shield protects SHOEI riders from<br />

99% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, and our<br />

three-dimensional injection-molding process ensures<br />

advantage of the CW-1 shield is it comes with pins for<br />

Variable Ventilation System<br />

The XR-1100’s new shell features three (3) intake and six (6) exhaust<br />

vents in total. Wind tunnel testing revealed that the optimal location<br />

for exhaust vents is high on the rear portion of the helmet’s shell.<br />

Better ventilation and aerodynamic performance is achieved by<br />

separating the spoiler and exhaust vents. The exhaust vent holes<br />

have been relocated to take better advantage of negative pressure<br />

suction, dramatically improving exhaust ventilation. SHOEI’s variable<br />

ventilation system allows riders to select the perfect balance<br />

between airflow and silence.<br />

Snell M2010 Certified<br />

The XR-1100 helmet passes the prestigious SNELL M2010 standard that came into effect on October 1st 2009. The XR-<br />

1100 is the first Snell M2010 Certified helmet to be available in Australia!<br />

The testing procedure for the SNELL M2010 standard now calls for graduated headforms of different weights. With previous<br />

standards (M2005, M2000 etc), every headform weighed the same regardless of helmet size. That allowed some manufacturers to get away with<br />

fewer shell sizes while producing helmets with more rigid shells. Please note the Snell label on the back of the helmet says only “Snell Approved.”<br />

Customers must look inside the helmet, behind the liner, to see that it meets the newer standard.<br />

TZ-X<br />

The focus at <strong>Shoei</strong> in recent years has been to create<br />

a range of premium race & sports helmets.<br />

In 2008 we introduced the VFX-W off-road helmet,<br />

which has redefined off-road racing helmets, and is<br />

the most coveted and sought after off-road helmet<br />

available today.<br />

In 2009 we introduced the class leading XR-1100<br />

helmet, which is now the benchmark for sports<br />

touring helmets.<br />

Our X-Twelve is the absolute pinnacle of dedicated<br />

road-race helmet design, and offers unrivalled race<br />

safety and performance.<br />

For 2010 our goal was to create the finest Road-<br />

Touring helmet the world has ever seen!<br />

The requirements for our development team were<br />

to create the ultimate balance of light weight,<br />

reduced noise & improved long distance comfort.<br />

We demanded a helmet that could be used by street<br />

riders of all types of motorcycles –cruisers, tourers,<br />

commuters etc – and onr that would provide the<br />

finest level of comfort, quality and safety.<br />

The final result is the incredible new……<strong>Shoei</strong> TZ-X!<br />

ULTIMATE COMfORT<br />

The design criteria for the new TZ-X was superior comfort over<br />

long distances. To achieve this, we wiped the slate clean and<br />

designed the TZ-X with a completely new shell shape and EPS<br />

liner design.<br />

Wind noise is one of the major contributors to rider fatigue, so<br />

the TZ-X has been designed in <strong>Shoei</strong>’s own, brand new high-speed<br />

300kph wind tunnel facility, to achieve incredibly low levels of<br />

wind noise – a massive 60% less wind-noise than the TZ-R it<br />

replaces!!<br />

The interior is a new and updated 3D<br />

(3 Dimensionally contoured) liner, with an updated 3D crown liner<br />

and removable, multi-layered cheek pads. These cheek pads are<br />

the same as applied to the XR1100, and are available in a range of<br />

thicknesses to achieve a perfect custom fit.<br />

<strong>Shoei</strong> cheek pads are made using a progressive combination of<br />

polyurethane foam layers in different densities to achieve a soft<br />

but firm hold.<br />

Slits for glasses have been built into the cheek-pads, making<br />

wearing glasses inside the TZ-X far more comfortable and easy.<br />

CW-1 VISOR SySTEM<br />

The new CW-1 visor and QRSA (Quick Release Self Adjusting<br />

base plate system is the same visor as applied to the X-Twelve<br />

and XR1100 race and sports models. This incredible new system<br />

offers ‘One-touch’, superfast and easy visor changes, and the<br />

spring loaded variable axis inside the base plate guarantees a<br />

firm seal when the visor is closed, vastly reducing windnoise.<br />

100% perfect optical clarify and increased vertical and<br />

peripheral vision results in increased safety.<br />

The CW-1 visor is made from hard coated polycarbonate and<br />

offers 99% UV protection<br />

A new Pinlock film has been designed specifically to fit the <strong>Shoei</strong><br />

CW- visor, and offers an increased of 30% more vision, with<br />

the film providing anti-fog right to the edges of the visor, greatly<br />

improving vision in wet weather and cold conditions.<br />

PASSIVE SAfETy<br />

The latest in AIM+ Technology has been<br />

applied to the TZ-X.<br />

The AIM+ shell consists of 6 layers of<br />

reinforced organic fibres and fibreglass. The<br />

new AIM+ shell offers increased impact<br />

absorption and penetration resistance<br />

properties, with a reduction in weight!<br />

<strong>Shoei</strong>’s Dual-Liner Technology is a<br />

combination of various grades of Expanded<br />

Polystyrene EPS to provide unsurpassed<br />

impact protection.<br />

A softer inner liner is couple to a firmer<br />

outer liner to provide progressive impact<br />

absorption and increased damping effect,<br />

resulting in improved safety.<br />

Each shell size now features its own individual<br />

size and density EPS liner, to ensure the<br />

optimal safety level is provided for each<br />

helmet size – resulting is a helmet with a<br />

safety level perfectly tailored to the wearer!<br />

The TZ-X does not rely on blocking noise with the interior<br />

padding, (as many inferior helmet brands do), as excessive<br />

padding will block informative sounds that are essential for rider<br />

safety.<br />

The flush surface and flowing lines of the TZ-X reduce air<br />

turbulence and control wind noise perfectly, while the ear<br />

sections are left open so a rider can still hear their surroundings.<br />

The new TZ-X is also equipped with an open ear section for fast<br />

& easy intercom integration.<br />

five shell sizes in the new TZ-X to ensure a custom fit for heads<br />

between the sizes of XXS-XXL.


VEnTILATIOn<br />

Hours of wind tunnel testing has resulted in the newly designed extra large upper air<br />

intake on the TZ-X to be placed in exactly the right position and at the perfect angle to<br />

achieve the most effective inlet airflow performance.<br />

This enlarged intake works like the ram-air inlet on a motorcycle – pressurising the<br />

channelled ventilation system inside the helmet to optimise cool airflow throughout the<br />

liner.<br />

The lower air intake is also newly designed, and provides an increased flow of air to the<br />

defroster inside the screen. It is also much larger than the previous design, making it<br />

much easier to open and close with winter gloves on.<br />

The air entering around the chin area is channelled inside the helmet through the<br />

defroster, which minimises fogging of the visor. The defroster outlet is angled so that the<br />

air flowing into the helmet does not hit the wearers eyes directly.<br />

The new Dual -Crown exhaust outlets make use of the negative pressure zone behind<br />

the helmet to effectively draw away hot air, while controlling the stream of air to offer<br />

balanced ventilation without turbulence.<br />

DUAL-LInER SySTEM<br />

<strong>Shoei</strong>’s unique Dual Liner system has<br />

also been adopted and improved for the<br />

TZ-X. The air routed between the two<br />

layers of impact absorbing liners gently<br />

diffuses the cool air flowing into the<br />

helmet, and around the wearers head,<br />

without causing cold spots.<br />

Pressurised cool air is fed into the<br />

ventilation system, and is drawn out of<br />

the exhausts effectively by low pressure.<br />

This revised design ensures the TZ-X<br />

offers optimal airflow with no increase<br />

in wind noise.<br />

AERODynAMICS<br />

The accented shell design is a perfect example of art defined by function.<br />

All of <strong>Shoei</strong>’s 50 year helmet design experiences has been coupled with the latest in<br />

computer generated design to create the TZ-X<br />

road helmet market, due to their combination of<br />

convenience and safety. Until now, flip up helmets<br />

have always been second best to full face helmets<br />

– that has all changed with our introduction of the<br />

new MULITEC!<br />

The new wind tunnel designed aerodynamic shape<br />

offers reduced drag and lift, which means less<br />

strain on the user’s neck. Wind noise was also<br />

a very important issue with this helmet, so all<br />

surfaces are smooth and flowing. Ventilation, which<br />

is usually a large generator of wind noise, has been<br />

integrated into the helmet so that wind noise is<br />

vastly reduced, while you still allowing a large<br />

volume of cool air flowing through the helmet.<br />

3D Comfort Liner System with removable<br />

Cheek pads.<br />

The TZ-R features <strong>Shoei</strong>’s unique 3D liner. The centre pad components<br />

are three-dimensionally shaped to match the contours of a rider’s<br />

head. This 3D fitment allows us to provide a helmet with an extremely<br />

comfortable fit, while maintaining the firm hold that is necessary for<br />

distraction-free, high-speed riding. The TZ-R’s removable, multi-layer<br />

cheek pads are available in six different thickness to allow riders to<br />

customize the fit of their new helmet. In addition, the cheek pads feature<br />

eye-glass channels for greater comfort.<br />

HORNET DS<br />

The <strong>Shoei</strong> Hornet-DS can be configured in three<br />

different ways to compliment all forms of motorcycle<br />

riding:<br />

1.With both the peak and visor fixed to the helmet,<br />

the Hornet is the perfect tool for exploring trails and<br />

back roads with your friends. The visor will keep the<br />

noise down and protect your face and eyes from bugs<br />

and dust. The peak protects your eyes from the glare<br />

of the sun, and can also deflect the roost that your<br />

buddies throw back at you in the dirt.<br />

2. If the trails get really tight or muddy, the rider<br />

can opt to remove the visor and ride with a pair of<br />

goggles.<br />

3. If the rider has to do some high-speed highway<br />

commuting to get to their favorite trail, the peak can<br />

be removed to completely eliminate the buffeting that<br />

the peak can cause. The visor is then attached using<br />

the base plate covers supplied with the helmet, giving<br />

a cool streetfighter look!<br />

The Hornet-DS comes equipped with a 2mm thick 3-dimensionally<br />

curved visor that can be positioned in 4 different locations. The<br />

visor can also be removed so the helmet can be used with goggles.<br />

The visors for this helmet are available in clear and light smoke<br />

tints and block 99% of UVA and UVB rays<br />

The Hornet-DS is fitted with <strong>Shoei</strong>’s 3D interior system. <strong>Shoei</strong>’s<br />

3D interiors use several different densities of foam in shapes<br />

corresponding to the shape of the rider’s head to ensure not only a<br />

comfortable feel, but superior stability in high speed riding. <strong>Shoei</strong><br />

utilizes our 3D Max Dry liner material for the interior of the Hornet-<br />

DS. This blend of fibers is capable of absorbing 35 times its weight<br />

in moisture. The Hornet-DS’ 3D interior is completely removable,<br />

making cleaning easy. <strong>Shoei</strong> offers range of cheek pad sizes to allow<br />

for a custom-fitting option. Our cheek pads even feature slits so you<br />

can comfortably wear eyeglasses inside your helmet.


The Hornet-DS has one of<br />

the most advanced ventilation<br />

systems ever found on a<br />

motorcycle helmet. With four<br />

intake and three exhaust vents,<br />

the Hornet-DS is up to the task<br />

of keeping a rider cool and<br />

dry in even the most extreme<br />

conditions.<br />

The stylish nose cover on the Hornet-DS is<br />

equipped an internal deflector mechanism<br />

that forces fresh air upward to help prevent<br />

fogging of the shield. The nose cover vent<br />

is also equipped with a shutter to enable<br />

to user to shut the vent if they choose to.<br />

The nose cover vent is easy to remove and<br />

disassemble, making cleaning easy.<br />

The Hornet-DS is equipped<br />

with two Cross Vortex exhaust<br />

vents and a neck outlet that are<br />

positioned to take advantage<br />

of low air pressure zones at the<br />

rear of the helmet that work to<br />

draw hot air from the helmet.<br />

The peak on the Hornet-DS is actually part of the ventilation system<br />

of the helmet. The visor is positioned slightly higher on the top of the<br />

helmet than a typical off road helmet for optimal visibility. The wedge<br />

shape visor was designed in <strong>Shoei</strong>’s in-house wind tunnel to reduce<br />

uncomfortable wind resistance and buffeting. The reduction of drag and<br />

lift help eliminate neck fatigue and keep the rider more comfortable.<br />

The chin curtain prevents wind from entering the bottom of the<br />

helmet, reducing noise and increasing comfort on cold days.

SHOEI ACTIVE SAFETY<br />

As opposed to “passive safety” that is ensured by compliance with safety standards, “active safety” defines the further improvements<br />

made by SHOEI to ensure that maximum comfort is achieved, allowing the rider to devote all of his or her focus to riding. Advanced<br />

helmet features such as our anatomically-shaped comfort liner for optimum helmet fitment, lowest possible weight to reduce stress on<br />

THE INTERACTION BETWEEN COMFORT AND PROPER FIT<br />

The material and shape of the comfort liner are critical factors for the overall wearing comfort and proper fit of the helmet. The wearing<br />

comfort covers the effect of the material properties on the skin of the rider. The fit defines how well the helmet sits on the head and stays<br />

in place, which is especially noticeable at high speeds. In the past, these two criteria often worked against one another. Very thick, soft<br />

padding provided good wearing comfort, but it did not hold well at high speeds, leading to helmet buffeting and instability.<br />

OPTIMIZATION OF PADDING COVER MATERIALS<br />

The development of new high performance fabrics allows for greater sweat absorption<br />

and dissipation, yielding a proprietary sweat absorbing material that greatly improves<br />

rider comfort. These materials (first researched and developed in motocross and road<br />

racing where the amount of physical exertion and hence the production of sweat is<br />

extremely high) are now production features in several of SHOEI’s helmet models.<br />

The heaviest part of a helmet is the helmet shell, which is of<br />

special importance when making a light helmet. Since the shell is<br />

also the part of the helmet that is the most stressed in the event<br />

of an impact, the requirements concerning the manufacturing of a<br />

light helmet shell are correspondingly high. Through its extensive<br />

experience in the processing of fiber compound materials, SHOEI<br />

has succeeded in developing the extremely resistant and lightweight<br />

AIM+ helmet shells.<br />

SHOEI’s Advanced Integrated Matrix + [AIM+] Is Made Up of Three Main Features:<br />

1. Fiber-Reinforced Matrix: The outer shell is given its shape by a heat-setting plastic resin. The SHOEI helmet shell owes its ideal function to the<br />

integration of organic fibers, as well as a three-dimensional shaping process in a layered structure. The result is an outer shell with high strength,<br />

but very low weight as compared to shells that are produced in a conventional way.<br />

2. The Compound Structure: The AIM shell consists of various layers of reinforcing organic fibers and glass fibers. Compared to an outer<br />

shell that is made only of glass fibers, the AIM outer shell is both lighter and more elastic, has superior strength and is more resistant to<br />

penetration due to the additional use of special fibers.<br />

3. The Synthetic Resin: A specially modified, unsaturated polyester resin (a so-called heat-setting plastic) is used for the AIM+ outer shell. This<br />

resin acquires the desired strength and elasticity during the heat hardening process. This synthetic resin is also extremely resistant to corrosion.<br />

With these constituent parts, we produce outer shells that convincingly produce ideal dampening of impacts, good elasticity, light weight, and<br />

enormously high strength and resistance to penetration. In addition<br />

to its enormous weight advantages, the AIM outer shell from SHOEI<br />

offers the best possible impact protection, as well. Through the<br />

interaction of the strength and the elasticity of the various materials,<br />

the AIM shell has been designed in such a way that the effect of an<br />

impact is absorbed and distributed over the largest possible area<br />

so that it may be more easily absorbed by the EPS liner. Thus, the<br />

shell and the EPS liner may show damage from deformation after an<br />

impact, but the head of the rider is given the maximum amount of<br />

protection as a result.<br />

IMPROVING AERODYNAMICS<br />

The stress applied to the neck muscles when riding a motorcycle comes not<br />

only from the weight of the helmet itself, but also from wind resistance. For<br />

that reason, improving the aerodynamics is an important factor in preventing<br />

the onset of fatigue. The SHOEI product development team regularly performs<br />

tests in our own wind tunnel to improve shell design and optimize aerodynamic<br />

properties.<br />

VENTILATION<br />

Back in the early 1980s, SHOEI developed a ventilation system that<br />

passed air through holes in the helmet shell without affecting stability.<br />

The idea that good ventilation is crucial for the safety of a helmet<br />

caused a fundamental change in the design of motorcycle helmets.<br />

Once again, this makes it clear how important the safety concepts<br />

and the spirit of innovation are at SHOEI. The investment in a wind<br />

tunnel of our own allows us to carry out intensive studies in the<br />

development of effective, high-performance ventilation systems.<br />

SHOEI has developed a dual EPS liner whose air system allows an<br />

optimum exchange of warm, humid air with incoming cold, fresh air.<br />

THE SHOEI SHIELD SYSTEM<br />

The shield protects the rider against wind, dirt and insects. In addition to full-face helmets, many * shell helmets<br />

and half helmets are equipped with shields. All SHOEI shields are made of polycarbonate, and the majority of<br />

our shields are produced by an injection molding process, which guarantees clear and distortion-free vision.<br />

Furthermore, the shield protects against small stones and absorbs 99% of the UV radiation, and its coating<br />

prevents scratches and lets water bead off more easily. Except for the Hornet-DS model, all of our shields are<br />

equipped with SHOEI’s own Q.R.B.P. system that allows the shield to be changed quickly and easily without<br />

needing any tools. The smooth surface of a SHOEI shield base plate system eliminates the irritating shield cover<br />

that some of our competitors utilize, which helps prevent unnecessary wind noise.<br />

NOISE REDUCTION<br />

Noise imposes unnecessary stress on the rider and can disturb<br />

his or her concentration. There are two ways to reduce noise<br />

in the helmet. Wind noise can be reduced by optimizing the<br />

aerodynamics. Additionally, the acoustic damping properties<br />

of the helmet can be optimized through careful design of<br />

the helmet shell and the padding. The decisive factor for a<br />

comfortable and quiet helmet is the balanced utilization of these<br />

two approaches. Utilizing a thicker helmet shell, eliminating<br />

ventilation, or using padding that is too tight may reduce<br />

the amount of noise experienced, but this is achieved at the<br />

expense of safety and comfort. This is not an option for SHOEI.

WIND TUNNEL TESTING<br />

More than 20 years ago, SHOEI was the first maker to recognize the importance of aerodynamics in designing a helmet. During this time,<br />

SHOEI invested in a wind tunnel of its own that is an indispensable constituent part of product development. In addition, tests to explore<br />

the effects of wind resistance and the various forces applied are constantly measured to determine the performance of the ventilation, as<br />

well as how much noise is being produced.<br />

TEST RIDES<br />

Intensive test rides are performed to verify the results of the<br />

wind tunnel testing on several aspects of the helmet. For example,<br />

the various forms of air flow created by different types of<br />

motorcycles, as well as the comfort experienced during long rides,<br />

are investigated and taken into consideration when developing a<br />

helmet design.<br />

RACING<br />

Nowhere are the requirements placed on a helmet more extreme than<br />

in professional racing. The development of SHOEI sports helmets is<br />

decisively supported by our factory riders in MotoGP, Supercross, and<br />

other international classes. Among other things, the ventilation system and<br />

the quick-change visor system were developed first for racing. Today, every<br />

rider with a SHOEI helmet can benefit from these technologies.


SHOEI PRODUCTION & QUALITY ASSURANCE<br />

For all the energy and passion that are invested in the development of a product, the same level of care and due diligence must be achieved during<br />

the production process. The following insight explains the individual processes that ultimately results in the unique quality of SHOEI helmets<br />

SHELL MOLDING<br />

SHOEI exclusively uses fiber-reinforced plastics that offer the best<br />

properties for the production of a helmet shell. Thanks to many<br />

years of experience and highly specialized employees, SHOEI is<br />

in a position to produce helmet shells that are extremely strong<br />

and light weight. Each helmet shell is marked personally by the<br />

employee who is responsible for it. The employee puts his or her<br />

name on the line by endorsing the quality of each and every helmet.<br />

LASER CUTTING<br />

Here the helmet is given its final shape. All the protrusions<br />

that area created in manufacturing are cut off. The openings<br />

for the shield and ventilation are burnt into the helmet shell<br />

with a laser. Finally, the helmet is checked to ensure that it<br />

has the correct material thickness and weight.<br />

FINAL ASSEMBLY<br />

The ventilation sliders, shield seals, inner shell,<br />

and padding are assembled with great care. Each<br />

helmet passes a detailed final inspection before<br />

being passed on to the consumer. This strict<br />

compliance with the production processes<br />

and associated quality control guarantees the<br />

consistently high SHOEI quality.<br />

PAINTING<br />

In though many production steps have been<br />

automated today, it is still critical that some processes<br />

are done by hand. SHOEI combines handwork and<br />

automation in production to ensure optimal quality.

Each helmet that leaves our factories in <strong>Ibaraki</strong> and Iwate has first been subjected to intensive quality control.<br />

QUALITY CONTROL IN THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE<br />

The Snell and DOT safety standards play a major role during the<br />

development of a helmet. The helmet shell and the shock-absorbing EPS<br />

liner are continuously tested for hardness and elasticity and modified as<br />

required. This results in a helmet that meets the strict standards that<br />

are applied, and still includes all the advantages of the original design.<br />

QUALITY CONTROL DURING PRODUCTION<br />

Strict quality control guidelines at SHOEI are in place during all phases<br />

of production, from manufacturing of the outer shell to the point of<br />

final assembly. In addition, samples are regularly taken from normal<br />

production and tested at the company’s own test facilities. Every year,<br />

more than 3,000 helmets are tested to ensure safety, and destroyed in<br />

doing so. These test helmets make a major contribution to the overall<br />

safety of our products.

recommend that you try a smaller size. If you feel local pressure points, then choose a helmet that is one size larger, or perhaps try<br />

on a different model.<br />

HELMET CARE<br />

SHELL<br />

All SHOEI helmet shells are<br />

made of compound fiber<br />

materials. Therefore, use plastic<br />

cleaner and/or wax to clean<br />

the helmet shell, but not on<br />

the ventilation slider and other<br />

plastic parts. Do not use polishes<br />

on helmets with matte finish<br />

paintwork. For these helmets,<br />

simply use a mild detergent and<br />

water for cleaning.<br />

THE COMFORT<br />

LINER<br />

All parts of the removable comfort<br />

liner should be washed by hand or<br />

in a washing machine at 30° C with<br />

the use of a washing bag. Antibacterial<br />

detergents have proven useful in<br />

removing smells. The EPS liner can<br />

likewise be wiped down with a mild<br />

cleaner. Make sure that everything<br />

is absolutely dry before putting the<br />

padding back into the helmet shell.<br />

PLASTIC PARTS SUCH<br />

AS THE SHIELD,<br />

VENTILATION, ETC.<br />

All plastic parts are very sensitive to<br />

solvents. For this reason, we recommend<br />

using only the mildest possible cleaning<br />

agents. The shield and any other parts<br />

that can be removed should be removed<br />

for cleaning. If the shield is equipped<br />

with a Pinlock system, this can also be<br />

cleaned with neutral soapy water. The<br />

shield and the Pinlock shield must be<br />

absolutely dry before the Pinlock system<br />

is reassembled.<br />

WHEN SHOULD A HELMET BE REPLACED?<br />

The life of a helmet depends on how it is used. A<br />

helmet should be replaced if one or more of the following points apply:<br />

1. There was a fall that resulted in an impact on the helmet.<br />

2. The helmet fits looser than when it was purchased due to frequent use.<br />

3. The EPS liner has come away from the helmet shell.<br />

4. The EPS liner shows signs of wear and is beginning to break up, or if it has been exposed to<br />

heat or a solvent and has melted.<br />

SERVICE: SHOEI helmets are covered by a five-year, limited warranty, and SHOEI will repair or<br />

replace the helmet if it is found to suffer from flaws in materials or workmanship.


SHOEI PINLOCK SYSTEM<br />

The <strong>Shoei</strong> CW-1 has the new PINLOCK System integrated into the visor as standard. The Pinlock Anti-fog insert<br />

lens (available separately) can be easily clipped into the pins fitted to the visor, and slots into the recess at the top of<br />

the visor for a perfect fit. This makes it possible to increase the size of the PINLOCK insert lens to its maximum - a<br />

massive 30% larger than previous models! The PINLOCK film can be easily clipped in and out and changed into tint<br />

or iridium visors as needed.<br />

The new Photochromatic lenses are perfect for use all day long whether it’s a hot sunny afternoon or a bright chilly<br />

winter’s day. Using light reactive technology they transform from a subtle shade of green to a deeper shade of mid<br />

blue within seconds in bright sunlight and return to their original colour when the weather changes.<br />

PINLOCK REPLACEMENT<br />

The Pinlock replacement kit is a very flexible<br />

system, with little effort you change the current<br />

lens for a (coloured) replacement. Diverse colours<br />

for different weather or light circumstances are<br />

available - From sunny to misty and rainy weather<br />

or low light conditions. You click one lens out and<br />

the other one in to adjust to changing weather<br />

conditions. A safe and quick solution<br />

Fit the Pinlock between the<br />

pins, as described. Do not<br />

remove the protective foil<br />

on the Pinlock yet.


MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS<br />

The Pinlock® fog free insert lens is created out of a moisture absorbing plastic. The Pinlock® creates an air tight double shield. The pins are<br />

eccentric, which means that the shaft of the pin is positioned off-center. This enables the user to increase or decrease the tension on the lens by<br />

turning the pins, allowing the silicone seal to have a perfect fit. Please notice! The Pinlock® fog free lens is less resistant to scratching then the<br />

original visor!<br />

REMOVING AND FITTING THE LENS:<br />

1) Remove the original visor from the helmet as shown in the helmet manufacturers’ instructions.<br />

2) Flex the original visor carefully until there is no more tension on the Pinlock® lens. Carefully remove the Pinlock® lens from its position.<br />

CLEANING:<br />

Only clean the Pinlock® fog free lens and the original visor using liquid green soap, lukewarm water and a soft moist cloth.<br />

Allow the lens and the visor to dry naturally before reassembling them.<br />

DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANING PRODUCTS OR LIQUIDS CONTAINING AMMONIA OR<br />

ALCOHOL.<br />

3) Flex the original visor and click the Pinlock® lens between the two pins and allow the original visor to return to its curved shape. The entire<br />

perimeter of the silicone seal should be in firm contact with the original visor.<br />

IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE:<br />

4) Remove the Pinlock® lens.<br />

5) Adjust the pins by pushing them outwards and turning them with your fingers before pushing them back.<br />

6) Repeat step 3.<br />

7) Allow the original visor to return to its curved shape and fit it back on the helmet.<br />

8) Remove the protective film from the Pinlock® lens.<br />

9) Fit the visor back on the helmet. While riding, the possibility exists that the enormous pressure of the wind drives moisture between the lens and<br />

the original visor. That is why we strongly recommend that you always close the visor when riding. Nevertheless, if moisture penetrates inside the air<br />

tight chamber, the Pinlock® lens should be removed from the original visor. Refit the lens to the visor after both have dried naturally.<br />

GUARANTEE:<br />

We only guarantee optical purity and production defects that are visible after removal of the protective film (prior to fitting the original visor to<br />

the helmet). Any claims under the guarantee must be submitted within 8 days after purchase. Pinlock® has international patent protection and is a<br />

registered brand name. Further patents have been applied for.<br />
