Teacher-of-the-Year Award
Here is a chance to say “Thank you” to your teacher.
You can acknowledge the time and effort that your teacher took to train and support you in the science
fair by taking a few minutes to complete the teacher-of-the-year nomination attached.
The Science Fair Teacher-of-the-Year is the Science teacher who has been most inspirational to
students participating in the science fair by encouraging students to develop a project and to
pursue their interest in science as a career.
Eligibility
• The nominee must have been a teacher during the academic year in grades K-12 in a Santa
Cruz County school.
• The teacher must have counseled a student at his/her school and provided resource
support on a science fair project that it entered into the current academic year’s Santa
Cruz County Science Fair.
Directions
A completed nomination for this award consists of:
• The science fair teacher-of-the-year nomination form (on back) filled out by the student
who is an accepted participant in the Santa Cruz County Science Fair, and
• A letter of recommendation written by the school principal or department chair. This
statement must be no longer than one page and should focus on the teacher’s commitment
to science education, ability to motivate students, and special efforts demonstrated to
advance excellence in science education. The letter should also address the nominee’s
specific contribution to promoting science fair participation. The nomination form and
recommendation must be submitted together.
