New Residence Halls Named for Southern Colorado Mountains
The three-building, 750-bed residence hall complex
scheduled to open in Fall 2009 and Fall 2010 on the northwest
corner of campus will bear the names of three Southern
Colorado mountain peaks – Crestone, Culebra, and Greenhorn.
The Colorado mountains were chosen as the theme because
they connect with the unique Colorado environment and
experience CSU-Pueblo offers students, and allows for future
renaming should donations or circumstances support doing
so. The 253-bed Crestone opened this fall with project
completion schedule for Fall 2010 for the other two buildings.
A brother and sister who
have excelled both in the legal
profession and in historical
preservation shared their
experiences with graduates in
May. Pueblo natives Frances,
A69, and Joseph Koncilja,
A73, who both earned
undergraduate degrees from
the University, presented the
Commencement Address
during the spring ceremony
on Saturday, May 2 at the
Colorado State Fair Events
Center.
A CSU-Pueblo senior
who aspires to change lives
as an elementary school
math teacher was named
the 2009 recipient of the
Threlkeld Prize for Excellence.
Jenna Garcia, Alamosa,
received the first diploma
for a bachelor’s degree in
Liberal Studies and a minor in
Elementary Education and a
concentration in math with a
3.971 graduate point average.
Other finalists for the award
included: Laurie Corridino,
Janet Martinez, Cole Mcgee,
Hollie Vigil, and Amanda
Winterseick.
