SPORTS CENTRAL Five CSU-Pueblo Spring Teams to Nationals CSU-Pueblo athletics programs enjoyed unparalleled success in 2008- 09, as five athletics programs qualified for national tournaments, a first in school history -- women’s basketball and softball, and men’s baseball, tennis and golf each qualified for regional tournaments, with three teams earning at least one win in national play. The CSU-Pueblo softball team earned its first national tournament win in program history when it defeated Colorado School of Mines twice in the Central Regional playoffs, ultimately finishing as the regional runner-up. The CSU-Pueblo baseball team finished third in its six-team region, earning wins over Minnesota State-Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State in the Central Regional Tournament. Finally, the men’s tennis program defeated Mesa State in the Central Regional Tournament before falling to eventual regional champion Metro State. The CSU-Pueblo baseball team earned its bid to the regional tournament based on its win in the RMAC Championship, its first RMAC title since 2004. The CSU-Pueblo women’s basketball team, which lost in its regional playoff game to Winona State, earned its third RMAC Championship in the past four seasons, and received its highest-seed in the national playoffs in school history.
