MBA Programs
School of Economics and Management
Tsinghua University
Program Objectives
The Tsinghua MBA Programs aim to educate future leaders
with general management capabilities.
Program Overview
Tsinghua MBA Programs now offer an International MBA
Program (taught in English, full-time), a full-time MBA
Program and a part-time MBA Program.
Tsinghua MBA Programs have adopted a new curriculum
since fall 2009. An admissions reform in line with the new
curriculum was also initiated in July 2010. The revised
curriculum does not only attach great importance to a
solid foundation in knowledge, but also stresses general
management capabilities, morality and professional ethics.
The framework of the new curriculum consists of a redesigned
core curriculum and enriched extra-curricular activities.
Tsinghua MBA students are able to build up a complete
knowledge system and essential management capabilities
through the new core curriculum. At the same time, they can
broaden their vision and networks by participating in extracurricular
events such as student events, practice projects,
company visits, business case competitions, international
exchange programs and the Alumni Mentorship Program.
Program Features
Innovative Curriculum
There are five required modules in the new core curriculum
of Tsinghua MBA: “ethics and soft skills”, “analytical
foundations”, “management fundamentals”, “China and the
world” and “integrative practice”. These modules are designed
to help students acquire knowledge, build capabilities and
strengthen integrity through learning and practice. Together,
they constitute a new core curriculum that allows students to
excel in “being”, “knowing”, and “doing”.
Admissions Reform
Compatible with the curriculum reform, major changes were
made in terms of MBA admissions standards and procedures.
For one thing, the Programs now judge prospective students
mainly based on their comprehensive capabilities and potentials.
The admissions faculty and staff will carefully examine
applicants’ documents and conduct face-to-face interviews,
therefore considering each in a more holistic way.
Meanwhile, as for the admissions procedure, application
review and interviews will take place before the traditional
written test. The admission committee will make conditional
admissions after the review and interview phase, and these
conditional admissions automatically become final admission
when the applicants attain the passing score in the national
MBA entrance test required by all MBA applicants in China.
Rich Learning Resources
There are more than 100 MBA courses (more than 1/3 taught
in English) with over 100 seminars and forums each year.
Case studies are frequently adopted in MBA courses, thereby
linking theory and practice. The “China Business Case Center”
established by Tsinghua SEM is co-directed by Professor
Warren McFarlan, former Senior Associate Dean of Harvard
Business School. Tsinghua SEM has also obtained full access
to the cases of Harvard Business School and of the Richard
Ivey School of Business in Canada.
Diverse International Cooperation
Currently, Tsinghua MBA Programs have built up student
exchanges with 60 top business schools globally. Tsinghua
MBA Programs host about 100 incoming exchange students
every year while the partner schools accept an equivalent
number of Tsinghua MBA students to go abroad to study for
one semester.
Outstanding Alumni Network
As of July 2011, there are 7,269 Tsinghua MBA alumni all
over the world in a variety of industries. The strength of the
alumni community derives from the strong sense of belonging
within Tsinghua MBA Programs. The Alumni Association and
the Alumni Mentorship Program of Tsinghua MBA bridges
alumni with current MBA students, providing constant advice
and support.
Extensive Club Activities
MBA students can also expand their knowledge and network
in more than twenty alumni associations and clubs in various
areas, including finance, entrepreneurship, investment, human
resources, management consulting and real estates.
