Footway Paving
Policy Manual - Governance
GENERAL
At its meeting held on 16 March 1998, the Council adopted a policy regarding the type of
paving material for the reconstruction of footpaths throughout the new City.
However, the former Town of St Peters had a Policy regarding footway paving. This policy is
to be revoked as a result of the adoption of a new Policy.
DISCUSSION
Policy number 50 from the former Town of St Peters states:
“On the basis of consistency and retention of existing character:
1) If a footway is presently paved with concrete that future new work in that street will be
concrete.
2) If a footway is presently paved with asphalt that future new work in that street will be
asphalt.
3) Future repairs and maintenance will be as in 1) or 2) above.”
At its meeting held on 16 March 1998, the Council adopted the following Policy with respect to
the construction of footways:
1) That the future reconstruction of footpaths throughout the new City be undertaken
utilising concrete block pavers.
2) That when requests are received from property owners to carry out footpath
construction as an extension of their own property upgrading, no objection will be
raised provided that the material is the same as the insitu material in type, pattern
and colours and provided that the Manager of Works and Technical Services is
satisfied that the works will be carried to the Council’s specification.
At its meeting held on 17 August 1998, the Council adopted the following policy with respect
to the type of concrete pavers to be used for footpath construction:
1. That footpaths in residential areas be constructed using a 60 mm concrete block
paver of a rectangular shape and a mauve and black colour.
2. That footpaths in commercial areas be constructed using a dark red 60mm
rectangular block paver with a header course in a charcoal colour at 15 metre
centres.
