The <strong>CFX</strong>-2 system is suitable for<br />

unattended operation in the field and<br />

designed to give accurate measurement<br />

of soil net <strong>CO</strong> 2 flux. It is an "Open<br />

<strong>System</strong>" where the measurements are<br />

based on concentration differences<br />

between air entering and leaving the<br />

chamber and the flow rate. The<br />

chamber is designed to minimize the<br />

internal over-pressure to such a degree<br />

that normal soil-atmosphere exchanges<br />

are maintained. It also has an integral<br />

stainless steel ring to provide a good<br />

seal with the soil surface.<br />

The Control Interface Module (CIM)<br />

includes an integrated <strong>CO</strong> 2 /H 2 O analyzer,<br />

a mass flow controlled air supply providing<br />

100 l/min of ambient air to an opaque<br />

chamber, datalogging/storage capability<br />

and keyboard for setting up the system<br />

and retrieval of stored data.<br />

Analysis Method<br />

Non-dispersive infrared, configured as an<br />

absolute absorptiometer with microprocessor<br />

control of linearization.<br />

Measurement Range<br />

<strong>CO</strong> 2 : 0-2,000 ppm (µmol mol -1 )<br />

H 2 O: 0-100%<br />

Measurements are automatically corrected for<br />

temperature and pressure.<br />

<strong>CO</strong> 2 : Better than 1% of span concentration<br />

over the calibrated range, but limited by the<br />

accuracy of the calibration gas mixture.<br />
