Industar Fkt. is a Hungarian family-run subcontracting
business, whose origins date back
to the period of the socialist regimes. In fact,
in 1962 Hungary was perhaps the only socialist
country in which some form of private initiative
was allowed (only as a second job) and it is
thanks to this that Pal Torok Sr. started working
as a blacksmith, and in particular wrought iron
working in Miskolc.
The business, in its current form, however, dates
back to 1976 when the first son, Pal Jr., came in
and started giving a new impetus, together with
his brother Sandor, the current owner, who joined
the company in 1980. But only after the fall of
the socialist regime in 1993, was it possible to
formally launch the company as we see it today.
It is Sandor who welcomes us and describes the
activity. Initially, our business was limited to the
repair of engines and doing bodywork with the
production of assembled components that were
sold retail and to local suppliers. In 1985 the core
business of the company, consisting of 5 people
in all, was the manufacture of silencers for
car exhausts. Thereafter, we added the produc-
tion of parts for furniture in metal, which we also
sold to local distributors and directly.
In 1996 we had the opportunity to acquire a
company in Felsozsolca, Mezogep Kft., that
produced hydraulic pumps and that had gone
bankrupt, together with the piece of land
around it. "It was an opportunity to differentiate
our products and also to grow" says Sandor
Torok. The warehouses of the acquired
company were old and ramshackle and in December
2004 we made the decision to build
