A Portrait in Perseverance
Trish Goulet - J.D. 2011, LL.M. 2012
Growing up in Flin Flon, Trish Goulet had little knowledge of the level
of commitment and capability that were part of her undetected inner
resources. As a member of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation out of Pelican
Narrows, Saskatchewan, she bore the distinction of being the third
member of her family to graduate from high school.
“I think it’s important to be in a position where we
can have influence. We have that responsibility
to our Communities. I think it’s important for us
to say, ‘you know what; I am a Cree woman and
this is what a First Nations person looks like. I’m
wearing a suit, I live in a nice community, and I
own a house. I think it’s important for us to be
visible this way and not that stereotype that
seems to be so prevalent. There’s a great group of
Aboriginal students here at Robson Hall and you
are going to see a lot of them in the future.”
Trish Goulet is quick to give credit to the amazing
support she received at the Faculty. “Everybody is
so approachable here. I’m going to make a point of
coming back often to visit.”
