Installation & Summer Hours
After the last day of the Annual PRC Juried
Exhibition and until we open our fall exhibition
(July 3 – September 3), the PRC gallery
and library will be dark. We’ll be open by
appointment only in order to host a plethora
of educational offerings, including the PRC
Summer Photo Camp. Please see page 9 for
our full slate of summer programs designed
to enrich your aesthetic and intellectual
appetite. Make no mistake, we’re still around!
During July and August, you can reach the
PRC staff Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5pm.
PRC Flickr Site Surpasses 20,000 views
As a part of our 30th anniversary celebration,
we launched the PRC Flickr site (online
at www.flickr.com/photos/prcboston) to post
images of receptions, exhibitions, lectures,
and workshops. To date, we have over 1,600
images that have been viewed over 20,000
times! Keep checking back to see the newest
images and who is featured online! If you
have a Flickr account (they are free), we
encourage you to post comments and make
us your contact/friend (to date we have over
140 contacts) so that we can continue to
build a network of photo friends. Don’t forget
to check out our topical Flickr group, “New
England Survey Online,” at www.flickr.com/
groups/newenglandsurveyonline. At the time
this went to press, we had over 340 photos in
the group pool and over 75 members.
Picture Show receives
New England Critics Award
The PRC is honored to announce that it has
won an award from the New England chapter
of the International Association of Art Critics,
USA (AICA/USA) for the 2006/2007 season.
In the category of “Best Show in a University
or College Gallery,” the PRC took Second Place
for its group exhibition, Picture Show. Leslie
K. Brown, PRC Curator and curator of the
exhibition, received the award at the AICA/
New England awards ceremony, along with
George Fifield, Director of Boston Cyberarts;
Cathy England, President of the PRC
Board of Directors, was also in attendance.
These prestigious awards are the art world’s
equivalent to those given by the New York
Film Critics Society, the Drama Desk, and the
Academy of Motion Picture awards. For the
past six years, the New England chapter of
AICA has initiated its own awards ceremony
to honor local efforts. This year, the AICA/NE
awards ceremony was held at the end of
February at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis
University. Francine Koslow Miller, Director of
AICA/NE, and Michael Rush, Director of the
Rose, hosted the invitation-only event. The
AICA/NE awards were also announced at the
national award ceremony, held at the Guggenheim
Museum. This is the second honor
Picture Show has garnered; the exhibition was
also was featured in the Boston Phoenix’s “Art
in Review” as one of the best of 2007.
Boston Globe art critic wins
Pulitzer Prize. PRC review is one
of nominated stories
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 was an important
newspaper day in Boston. Gracing the front
page of the Boston Globe was the Red Sox’s
opening day at Fenway and the announcement
that its own art critic Mark Feeney
won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. The
stars aligned for the PRC and Feeney’s review
of the PRC landscape exhibition, New England
Survey, also ran in the very same Globe. We
are honored to report that one of the 10
stories with which Feeney was nominated
and won was his review for the awardwinning
PRC exhibition Picture Show. You
can read over half a dozen of Mark Feeney’s
reviews of PRC exhibitions from the last five

Mark your calendar for a great party for a
great cause. On Saturday, October 25th, the
808 Showroom will be filled with hundreds of
artists, collectors, and other PRC members,
to participate in the incredible PRC Benefit
Auction. (See the full-page call for entries on
page 18 for a chance to submit your work.)
In addition to much needed support for the
PRC, your ticket allows you to enjoy a light
dinner buffet, complimentary parking, a seat
at the live auction, and your chance to add a
number of original works to your collection.
Before the Benefit Auction, visit the Live
Auction Preview Exhibition, September 19 –
October 19, 2008 on display at the PRC. The
Silent Auction Preview Exhibition will run in
the 808 Showroom October 2 – 19, with your
chance to exercise the popular “buy it now”
option. Tickets to the Benefit Auction will go

Since February, the intrepid PRC staff, under
the guidance of PRC Board Member David
Karp (thank you!), has been quietly test running
a blog and posting behind the scenes.
We are now ready to share the PRC blog

feed and above all, be sure to peruse our
past and pending posts for a smattering of
PRC factoids and all manner of photo-based
activities, news, happenings, topics, and ideas
in and around Boston, New England, and
beyond.
We’ll have behind-the-scenes images and
announcements (even before email or newsletter!),
news from the field, reviews of industry
events, and even guest bloggers. Our
categories will include such topics as “Calls
for entry,” “PRC fun facts,” and what is sure to
