World’s Greatest Shave
I would like to congratulate the Princes community for
their wonderful support of the World’s Greatest Shave.
This national event aims to raise funds to support the
Leukaemia Foundation which provides practical and
emotional support to people with blood cancer.
Brodie Henderson of Year 7 initiated our commitment to
this cause. His good friend, Year 7 student Hamish
Greenslade, was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma
earlier this year and Brodie suggested the Middle School
take up the challenge in support of Hamish.
The following students participated in the World’s
Greatest Shave and should be congratulated for raising
nearly $16 000 for the Leukaemia Foundation:
Jack Greenslade, Brodie Henderson, Axel Heinrich, Max
Kirkby, Cameron Young, Rupert Johnson, Alasdair
McFarlane, Kurt Bierlein, Gian-Luca Stirling. Two staff
members, Beau Muzik and Shane Reidy also took part in
the challenge.
The One and All
The Year 9 boys at Wambana returned to Adelaide
aboard the One and All last week. The students of 9ADI
had the good fortune to spend three days and two nights
aboard the tall ship which is back in circulation again.
This experience provided a wonderful finale to the four
week Extended Stay Program.
The College was disappointed when the One and All
stopped operating in 2011 and credit must be given to
Dale Hobbs, Director of the Wambana, who has been
collaborating with the “Friends of the One and All’ over
the past 12 months to reinstate this terrific climax to the
program.
We have assurances that the next three Wambana
groups will also have this terrific opportunity. We also
look forward to their tales of life on the high seas.
The final
shave took
place at a
special
Middle
School
Assembly.
Each
student
nominated
a staff member to carry out the task of shaving his hair.
As a result, boys ended up with substandard haircuts.
Teachers should stick to what they know best.
Fortunately, Alex Milic, a parent and a hairdresser, gave
each boy (and the staff members) a final tidy up, making
them look respectable. At times like this, the generosity of
the Princes community becomes evident. I would like to
thank all involved: boys who had their heads shaved,
boys who showed support, and families and friends who
contributed.
