INTERACTIVE PHYSICS: BY
DESIGN SIMULATION
TECHNOLOGIES
Interactive Physics is a versatile program
that allows users to build a wide variety of
mechanics simulations. The robust
interface allows the user to build simple or
elaborate systems on screen. Build
systems made up of ropes, rods, pulleys,
gears, springs, various joints, actuators,
dampers, motors, and objects of various
shape and mass.
Having built the physical system, other
parameters can be entered: forces,
torques, gravitational acceleration, friction,
air resistance, spring constants, elasticity,
and charge. Clicking the RUN button starts
the simulation. The program calculates the
motion of the system and displays it in
smooth animation. Meters can be selected
to display simulation information in
graphical or digital format as the
simulation runs.
Teachers and students can use Interactive
Physics to build and explore physics
experiments on the computer. Use
Interactive Physics as a lecture
demonstration tool. Work a textbook
problem on the blackboard and then build
it on the computer screen for a full
visualization of the solution. Model lab
experiments or have students create their
own.
MAGNETISM 3D:
MAGNETIC FIELD
SIMULATOR
By Nima Bigdely Shamlo
Similar to Electrostatics 3D, Magnetism
3D is an interactive software program that
allows students to study magnetic fields
using a variety of stunning visualization
methods. Magnetism 3D utilizes colorful
two-dimensional and three-dimensional
graphics to display magnetic field lines for
current-carrying straight wires,
current-carrying wire loops, solenoids, and
permanent magnets.
The three-dimensional graphics can be
rotated in space about multiple axes for a
true 3D perspective. The user is provided
with a wide variety of simple to use tools
that permit any desired configuration
comprised of any number of objects to be
created on-screen. Simply click the
desired object from the toolbar, input the
chosen parameters, and position the
object on-screen.
MODERN PHYSICS
VISUALIZED
By Mark Mattson
This engaging software package puts the
abstract concepts of modern physics into
an understandable context by utilizing
highly visual and highly interactive
computer simulations. Using computer
animation that is governed by user input,
students are able to interactively study
modeled physical behavior that previously
may have only been presented in the form
of an equation or static diagram. Time
dilation, the particle nature of light, atomic
models, and probability waves are all
brought to life! By fully utilizing the
computer medium, Modern Physics
Visualized brings understanding to
modern physics topics in ways that go
beyond that offered by a textbook.
OBSERVATIONAL
ASTRONOMY:
RE-CREATING A NIGHT
SKY OBSERVING SESSION
By Richard Erwin
Students may have seen pictures of the
famous Horsehead Nebula or Andromeda
Galaxy, but where does one look in the sky
to find these objects, and what can one
expect to see when viewing these objects
through the eyepiece of an amateur
telescope?
Designed for introductory astronomy
courses, Observational Astronomy
re-creates a night sky observing session
on the computer. Using specialized
astrophotography, Observational
Astronomy explores the night sky
revealing the deep-sky objects hidden
within the constellations. Nebulas,
galaxies, and star clusters are first located
and then observed in a setting similar to
that of a night lab.
Item no.
Format
: RA01120047
: CD-ROM (Win,
Students are initially presented with a
naked-eye view of the stars with the option
to superimpose constellation lines.
