clumsy chaos! A stunning stage adaptation of this classic tale of teatime mayhem, expect
MUNDY
Born in Co. Offaly, Mundy moved to Dublin
when he was still a teenager and honed his
musical talents performing on street corners.
His debut single To You I Bestow was featured on
the soundtrack to William Shakespeare’s Romeo +
Juliet and introduced the then 21 year old singer
to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
This was followed with dates supporting Alanis
Morissette and Neil Young in Dublin, before the
release of his debut album Jelly Legs, which went
on to sell over 50,000 copies worldwide.
Since then he has performed with the likes of
Van Morrison and Manic Street Preachers and
released the albums 24 Star Hotel and the recent
Raining Down Arrows. Mundy’s live recording of
Steve Earle’s Galway Girl helped to propel both
versions to the upper reaches of the Irish charts.
By Samuel Beckett
Endgame was Beckett’s favourite play in that it was the one he disliked least.
it has never achieved the same popularity as Waiting For Godot but it has as
much poignancy, great speeches and poetic intensity. This production brings
out the humanity, humour and the power of this extraordinary work.
Beckett is often compared to Shakespeare as they both go to the core of the
human condition and highlight the rich comedy to be found in our follies.
THE
CONSCIENCE
OF THE KING
By Anthony Daly
Versailles 1670- Louis XIV, King
of France has fallen madly in love
with Madame de Montespan. He
discovers, to his horror, that she
has betrayed him and everything
he stands for. How can you love
someone you cannot trust?
It is the summer of 1878, a time of unrest and the early days
of the Home Rule movement. The fateful events of The Home
Place take place over a single day at The Lodge in Ballybeg,
the Donegal home of the Gores, a planter family.
The Gores, father and son, are both in love with Margaret,
their housekeeper. All three pursue a hopeful dream of
freedom from their history and heritage and the “awful
burden” of the big house. The situation quickly unravels,
accelerated by Gore’s cousin Richard, who unwittingly
insults and inflames the local population during an
already volatile time.
Friel’s brilliantly crafted drama continues the historical
probing which in Translations examines the tragic effects of
a military operation to map the physical contours of the
Irish landscape. In this, his latest play, a scientific exercise to
determine the Irish character unleashes the tragedy, which
revolves around the ideas of national identity, love and
belonging. Beautifully written, this is classic Friel.
Directed by Mick Gordon; Designed by Ferdia Murphy;
Costume Design by Sinead Cuthbert, Lighting Design by
Mark Howland. Cast includes Ian McElhinney, Lalor Roddy,
Lisa Lambe, Aislinn McGuckian, Miche Doherty, Julia Dearden.
Directed by Art O’Briain
Performed by Fergus Cronin
Frequently described as one of Beckett’s most
incredible insight into the human condition. On
the occasion of his birthday, Krapp sits alone at a
desk replaying extracts from his journals which he
has gathered on old reels. Sadness and extreme
loneliness combine with extraordinary humour to
offer an emotionally rich night of theatre.
NAMHAID DON PHOBAL
Performed in Irish with English subtitles
A coastal town… an infected water supply… a local
election looming… An Taibhdhearc and Moonfish Theatre
present a co-production of Henrik Ibsen’s powerful and
resonant play Namhaid don Phobal (An Enemy of the People).
In a small coastal town the local doctor uncovers a secret
that jeopardises the town’s economy. It could also threaten
his own brother’s plans for re-election as Mayor. When the
doctor insists that he must broadcast his findings, he faces
a terrible choice…
Truth versus profit, ideals versus practice, and brother
versus brother in this modern, explosive interpretation
of a classic European play.
An Taibhdhearc teams with emerging Galway company
Moonfish Theatre in an exciting co-production that
revisits a classic from An Taibhdhearc’s canon, first
performed in 1948.
McAleer is far too modest to comment on his
wasted in an evening of vintage comedy that is so
concentrated that people go home afterwards, drink
