Wheel chain requirements
Visitors to Mt Buller should check the
night before their visit whether they will need
to carry wheel chains. The Mt Buller and
Mt Stirling Alpine Resort Management Board
makes a daily wheel chain announcement
after reviewing forecasted weather and road
conditions. If conditions are fine and the
roads clear of snow and ice, then day visitors
are not required to carry chains.
The wheel chain update is posted on the Mt Buller website daily
at 5pm and is also noted in the morning snow report shared with
accommodation providers, retail outlets and on flashing roadside
billboards.
The requirements can vary between two-wheel drive, four-wheel
drive and all-wheel drive vehicles.
Overnight visitors are required to carry chains at all times as
conditions on the mountain can change very quickly.
Wheel chains are available for hire from a number of outlets in
Mansfield where you can also get advice on how to correctly fit
them to your car as required.
