Irememberbeingtoldbythecareersoficethatitwouldbealmostimpossible<br />
togetintoacareerlikethat,youwouldhavetogotoUniversity,getagood<br />
degree,andonlythenwouldbeabletostartthetraining.<br />
AtmyfirstinterviewforatraineepositionIwasrequiredtoundertakeasmal<br />
labtesttodemonstratemyskils,atthattimetherewaslitleinformationavailableaboutwhatmightbeexpectedandtherewascertainlynoWorldSkils<br />
eventssuchasthese.<br />

andFineArt,alofmyteachersatSixthForm were<br />
shockedtohearthatIwantedtostudy<strong>Forensic</strong>ScienceatUniversity.Atthistime,Iwasahugefanof<br />
thevariouspopularCSIshows.Notbelievingthat<br />
theprogramsdepictedreallife,Iwantedtostudy<strong>Forensic</strong>Sciencetoseparatethefactfrom<br />
thefiction,in<br />
ordertolearnwhatitisliketobeapractisingCrime<br />
SceneInvestigatoror<strong>Forensic</strong>Scientist.Asaresult,I<br />
decidedthattheUniversityofCentralLancashirewas<br />
theplaceforme,studying<strong>Forensic</strong>ScienceandCriminalInvestigation(BSc).<br />
Alongsidemystudies,Ihavebecomeinvolvedwitha<br />
varietyofotheractivitiesinrelationtomyultimate<br />
goalofbecomingacogwithinthe<strong>Forensic</strong>system.<br />
Firstly,IcompetedintheWorldSkilsUK2013<strong>Forensic</strong>SciencecompetitionhostedattheNECinBirmingham.Thiswasanoverwhelmingopportunitytogain<br />
realexperiencefrom practising<strong>Forensic</strong>Scientists<br />
whilstalsobeingcrownedthe1stWorldSkils<strong>Forensic</strong>ScienceChampion.<strong>The</strong>competitionwasafantasticexperience,alowingmeto<br />
demonstratemy<br />
knowledgegainedfrom universitywhilstalsoshowinginitiativewhenfacedwithdificulties.<br />
Mygoldmedal,alongwithmyFirstClasHonours<br />
degree,hasdemonstratedthatIam competentand<br />
driventowardsacareerin<strong>Forensic</strong>Science.Since<br />
beingcrowned,Iwasselectedasoneof16individualsfrom<br />
aworldwideapplicationprocestowork<br />
alongsidePathologistswithinMiamiDadeMedical<br />
Examiners’Oficeasavoluntaryintern.Additionaly,<br />
Ihaverecentlybeenemployedinafultimeposition<br />
byGreaterManchesterPolicehavingcompleteda<br />
threemonthvoluntaryplacementwithintheir<strong>Forensic</strong>ServicesBranch.<br />
Alofmyexperienceshavearisenfrom myeducation.<br />
Mydegreehasbeenfantasticduetothehighstandardstaught.Itisimperativethateducationisinteresting,relevantanduptodate,ensuringthatyoung<br />
