Dear Parents
The College mid-year exams came to an end today and on Monday we will
commence with a full academic programme (starting with WEEK 1
timetable) that will run until the end of term. Thanks are extended to Mr
Checkley and his team for the smooth running of the examinations.
Operation Brightsight – Civvies Day
The Lions (Tokai) “Operation Brightsight” mission is to make affordable
spectacles available to all economically disadvantaged people of any age,
but in particular for needy young learners, where impaired vision is arguably
the worst impediment for their personal development.
To support this fundraising initiative Reddam House will be having a Civvies
Day on Wednesday 22 nd June. The cost/donation per learner is R10.00,
which includes an individually wrapped candy cane as well as a sticker, in
acknowledgement of support. While your child won’t need reminding to
wear civvies to school on Wednesday, he/she might need reminding about
the need to bring R10.00 with them on the day.

UCT Mathematics Competition
The annual UCT Mathematics Competition Prize-Giving was held on the
evening of Wednesday, 1 June 2011. As a school we did exceptionally well
coming 4 th out of the 138 schools that participated. This is three places up
from last year when Reddam was placed 7 th . This is an outstanding
achievement and we would like to thank and congratulate the Reddam
“Mathematics A Team” students and coaches for their hard work and
dedication.
The following students achieved Gold Awards (placed in the top 10 of their
grade):

Karate News
Brittany Denton won two
Gold medals in a local karate
competition held in Paarl last
weekend. She is off to Port
Elizabeth this weekend to
represent Western Province
in the Karate South Africa
National Championships.
Brittany has also been
selected to represent South
Africa in the 6 th
Commonwealth Karate
Championships in Australia
and is raising funds for her
trip by holding a theatre
sports evening at Kalk Bay

This coming Thursday, June 16, is Youth Day and the following day has

EXTRA MATHS TUTORIALS : Term 2
Mathematics teachers are available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
afternoons for tutorial sessions. Students must “book” by putting their name
down on the booking sheet in Ms Yeo’s room. A maximum of 8 students
may attend each session. This small group maximum is imposed to ensure
that each student gets individual attention.
Tutorial sessions are not formal lessons. Students having problems with
any section of Mathematics may attend. They must come prepared, i.e.
they should bring with them their questions, worksheets, practices, tests,
revision sheets etc.

Michela Protti was too strong, winning 3-0; Carey
tried hard but lost, Heidi hung in well to win 3-1,
and Emma came back from 2 games down to win
the 5 th in a close tussle and playing more errorfree
in her last games. Well done, team!
Girls Hockey:
1 st vs Tableview Lost 0-1 The game started off with both teams attacking at
a nice pace. Reddam had the better chances but
at half time it ended 0-0. The second half saw
Reddam taking the game to Tableview as the girls
were on yet another attack. The Tableview team
created a counter attack and scored from it.
Unlucky for the Reddam girls, they could just not
score their chances. Well tried!
