for Kansas was Justin Glasgow<br />

(four starts at OT and seven at OG).<br />

Starting six games at QB for the<br />

Jayhawks was Zac Wegner, who hit 66<br />

of 144 for 970 yards and four TDs. Bob<br />

Schmidt was second team C for Kansas.<br />

Contributing to the 6-5 SMU season<br />

were FB Jeff Pennington, who started<br />

10 games, and DB Chad Kollar '98 (six<br />

starts, 48 tackles).<br />

Numerous <strong>Phi</strong> standouts sparked 6-<br />

4 Butler. On the All-Pioneer Football<br />

League first team was LB Kevin Ward<br />

'99, who led with 161 tackles. Named<br />

All-PFL second team was LB Nick<br />

Winings '98 (130 stops), LB Doug<br />

Miller '98 (57 tackles) and DE Randy<br />

Renschen '98 (53 tackles). Also starting<br />

was OG David Kremer '99 while WR<br />

Bart Beatty '98 had 14 receptions for<br />

204 yards.<br />

Sixteen <strong>Phi</strong>s<br />

were on the<br />

Davidson team.<br />

Cowan. Solid defenders were LB Chris<br />

Hess (62 stops), DT Marcus Williams<br />

(32 tackles) and DB Richard Hale (21<br />

tackles).<br />

Ten <strong>Phi</strong> Delts were consistent starters<br />

for Valparaiso. Leadmg the offense<br />

were two All-PFL second team picks,<br />

FB Bob Cracknell (641 rushing yards in<br />

141 tries) and center Eric Rodbro. QB<br />

Paul Van Dam hit 111 of 251 for 1,165<br />

yards, 8 TDs and ran for 244 yards, 4<br />

TDs. WR Eric Zodrow led with 31<br />

catches for 350 yards while TE Matt<br />

Steinfeldt caught 14 for 185 yards.<br />

Mike Meeks started at OG.<br />

DT Ray Cirks (41 tackles, 3 sacks)<br />

of Valparaiso was on the All-PFL second<br />

team. Other top defenders for the<br />

Crusaders were LB Chris Stewart (64<br />

tackles, 9 for losses); DE Jon Wrench<br />

(40 tackles, 4 sacks); and DE Franco<br />

Francese (37 stops). Kicker Eric<br />

Strasser led the team with 40 points (5<br />

FGs and 25 extra points).<br />

Seeing duty for Southeast Missouri<br />

State were LB Steve Ledbetter,<br />

(30 tackles), deep snapper Dan<br />

Stubinski, kickoff specialist Nick<br />

Reggio and TE John Borne. Doug<br />

Healy, '99, was a good backup TE for<br />

8-3 Drake.<br />

Fullback Brad Olsen led a group of<br />

19 <strong>Phi</strong> Delt players at Lawrence. A<br />

Division III All-American first teamer,<br />

he ranked eighth with 149.9 yards per<br />

game (1,349 yards, 16 TDs on 221 carries),<br />

and was Midwest Conference<br />

<strong>No</strong>rth Division Most Valuable Offensive<br />

Player. Brad finished with 5,325<br />

career rushing yards. Blocking for<br />

him were All-MWC first teamers Joel<br />

Bogenschuetz and Mark Smrecek plus<br />

second team pick Rob Dummert.<br />

The Lawrence defense was led by<br />

two All-MWC second teamers: DB J.J.<br />

Hanson (65 tackles, 4 interceptions)<br />

and DE Brian Schreiber (47 tackles).<br />

Other stars were DB Rob Kreil (75<br />

tackles, 4 interceptions); LB Rob Geek<br />

(70 stops); DT Josh Cudacoff (50 tackles);<br />

co-captain/LB Scott Walworth<br />

(46 tackles); DB Ethan Lamont (44<br />

tackles); DB Chris Leatherbury (41<br />

tackles); DT John Hedrick (37 tackles);<br />

and AFCA Good Works Team DB<br />

Eric Benedict (26 stops).<br />

Leading the 10-1 Hanover playoff<br />

team was Division III All-American<br />

first team LB Kevin O'Donohue '98,<br />

the ICAC Defensive Player of the Year.<br />

He led with 83 tackles, including nine<br />

for losses, deflected seven passes and<br />

forced five fumbles. Also key players<br />

on defense were DB Andy Southworth<br />

(27 tackles, three interceptions) and<br />

DT Simon Lee (24 tackles).<br />

Pacing Hanover's offense was All-<br />

ICAC WR Tarrik Wilson (71 catches for<br />

903 yards, 8 TDs, 18 punt returns for a<br />

7.7 average). Also playing well were AU-<br />

ICAC honorable mention OT Scott<br />

Goodhart, OT Kevin Hospelhorn and<br />

WR Brian Arthur (12 catches for 133<br />

yards, 11 kickoff returns for a 20.8 average).<br />

The top defender for 6-5 Wabash<br />

was DE Chet Craft (56 tackles, team<br />

high 13.5 sacks), a Division III Ail-<br />

American second teamer. DB Kyle Case<br />

was ICAC Freshman of the Year with a<br />

team best 7 interceptions and 37 tackles.<br />

Other stars were co-captain/DT<br />

Jake Gilbert, (47 stops), LB Keenan<br />

Blanchford, (39 tackles) and DB Chet<br />

Casper, (34 stops). Regulars on offense<br />

were co-captain/WR Pete Logan (16<br />

catches for 254 yards) and TE Mike<br />

Segura.<br />

Westminster QB Justin Peery,<br />

threw for a Division III record 497<br />

yards in the second half of a 66-58 win<br />

over Bethel. His 539 total yards (519<br />

passing, 20 rushing) was a Division III<br />

1997 high, and he ranked 18* with<br />

277.0 total offense yards per game. In<br />

leading the Blue Jays to a 6-4 season,<br />

Justin hit 224 of 375 for 2,825 yards<br />

and 26 scores. Teammate Chris Garrett<br />

was an OT starter.<br />

Fourteen Brothers helped lead Centre<br />

to a 6-3 mark. Punter Jeff Floyd was<br />

on the Division III All-American third<br />

team, averaging 42.8 on 48 boots (best<br />

of 77 yards). As QB, he was All-SCAC<br />

first team after hitting 97 of 213 for<br />

1,541 yards and running for 316 yards,<br />

8 TDs. All-SCAC first team TE Bryce<br />

Calvert caught 23 balls for 432 yards<br />

(including a record 161 yards versus<br />

Rhodes). Tackle Steve Cobb and OT/<br />

OG Nate Fisher also were starters.<br />

On the All-SCAC defensive first team<br />

for Centre was LB Mike Mason, who<br />

had 43 stops and six sacks. Linebacker<br />

Matt Hummel (44 tackles) was a Burger<br />

King Scholar-Athlete and received All-<br />

SCAC honorable mention. Also playing<br />

well were DT Chris Kuhnhein (37 tackles,<br />

5 sacks) and DB Andrew Habeeb<br />
