Ohio Beta
Ohio Wesleyan University
This fall Ohio Beta took a
leadership role on campus,
across the nation and in
Canada when we decided to
go dry. As a result of our decision,
we received a twenty
thousand dollar grant. We
plan to buy a few computers
and dining room furniture
among other things. The
house has been vastly improved
since the fire last fall.
With the help of the house
corporation and alumni financial
support we have the
best looking house on campus.
As of this fall four brothers
graduated, eight new brothers
(sophomores) moved in,
and we have one Phikeia. We
have a total of eleven brothers
in the chapter house. ~
Through our summer efforts
we hosted a BBQ on the first
day of classes and had 60
young men attend. We are
starting to believe that if we
put in the effort, the results
will come. Maybe not today
or tomorrow, but we will
have success in our future.
We have a long hard journey
before us and know the risks,
but we are willing to touch
the sky.
We are committed to giving
back to the community
and to actively participate in
community service projects
throughout the year. We have
just adopted a section of
highway and are excited to
begin the challenges it
brings.
Our Mothers Club, which
has been dormant for many
years, has just been reestablished
and has collected
recipes for the new Phi Delta
Theta cookbook. They have
also collected some money
which they will put towards
house improvements.
Just recently we have had
some new challenges trying
to promote a dry house on a
wet campus. We are looking
for young brothers in places
where we have never looked
before. As rushees realize a
dry Greek system is where
everyone is headed, they will
look for a place to call home,
rather than a place to party.
Now our chapter has potential
to return to the powerhouse
it once was.
Brothers, even though we
may be separated by distance
any assistance or general
feedback you can supply will
be greatly appreciated. We are
moving in the right direction.
That direction is away from
the social club we were, to the
fraternity which was founded
on sound learning, friendship,
and rectitude.
Ohio Kappa
Bowling Green State
University
Over the first semester of
this academic year, the current
members of Phi Delta
Theta at Bowling Green State
University have worked hard
and diligently to improve
their efforts in the community,
their scholarship, and
their ties of brotherhood.
First, and foremost, the
chapter is proud to announce
it has secured housing for the
academic year of 1998-1999
thanks to the kindness and
generosity of local alumnus
Steve Green. The official
chapter house will be located
on East Wooster Street across
from Founders Hall on the
campus of BGSU which wUl
combine the benefits of off
Butler Phis scare their neighbors
diversity and community.
Over the last few years. Phi
Deha Theta at BGSU has become
more interested in
community service, winning
its first international recognition
award. So far this year,
the brothers have held their
72-hour camp out to benefit
area homeless, completed the
annual Adopt-A-Highway
project, and are planning a
new activity to benefit Spe-
Phis from butler prepared their chapter house for a
haunted house last fall. Proceeds from the event went to
the Amyotrophic Lateral Schlerosis Society (Lou Gehrig's
disease).
campus living with the location
necessary to be recognized
in on-campus events
such as rush. The University,
local advisors, and current
members of the chapter
strongly support this move.
Despite not having an official
chapter house for more than
four years, the chapter has
worked hard to maintain itself
in the highly and richly
competitive Greek system at
here. Throughout this maintenance
period, the men of Phi
Deha Theta at BGSU have not
lost the two defining aspects
of the chapter's personality -
cial Olympics. In addition to
serving the community, Ohio
Kappa has also instituted
mandatory house-wide study
tables and a positive, hazingfree
pledge program. The
study tables have helped the
brothers earn their top-five
ranking in chapter GPA and
the new pledge program has
greatiy increased the involvement
of pledges in the dayto-day
functioning of the
chapter.
Working with its adviser.
Dr. Jim Phipps, the chapter is
in the initial stages of identifying
prominent alumni who
