The Charles Dobbins Award for Excellence in Service<br />

was awarded to Elizabeth Howerth, DVM, PhD,<br />

DACVP, a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> anatomic pathology, for her<br />

service to the College and to her pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Howerth’s<br />

expertise and interest in diseases <strong>of</strong> exotic animals were<br />

instrumental in the formation <strong>of</strong> the UGA Zoo and<br />

Exotic Animal Pathology Service, a service that provides<br />

pathology support to Zoo Atlanta and other zoological<br />

parks. Howerth also heads her department’s surgical<br />

pathology service, manages the residency program in<br />

anatomic pathology, and is an active member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

American College <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Pathologists.<br />

Uriel Blas-Machado, DVM, PhD, DACVP, an<br />

associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> anatomic pathology, received the<br />

Outstanding Laboratory Service Award for his efforts<br />

to expand the services <strong>of</strong>fered by the Athens Veterinary<br />

Diagnostic Laboratory to include marine mammals and<br />

laboratory animals.<br />

Ira G. Roth, (DVM ’86), director <strong>of</strong> the UGA<br />

Community Practice Clinic, was inducted into the Phi<br />

Zeta Veterinary Honor Society.<br />

Sonia Hernandez, DVM PhD, DACZM, was<br />

awarded the Warnell Faculty Award for Outstanding<br />

Teaching. Hernandez was<br />

also the recipient <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>2013</strong> Western Veterinary<br />

Conference’s Avian and<br />

Exotics Continuing Educator<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Year. Hernandez is an<br />

assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> wildlife<br />

disease ecology; she is jointly<br />

appointed to the Warnell<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Forestry and Natural<br />

Resources, and the Southeastern<br />

Cooperative Wildlife Disease Hernandez<br />

Study at the CVM.<br />

Corrie Brown, DVM, PhD, DACVP, a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

anatomic pathology, was selected by the American<br />

Veterinary Medical Association’s Committee on<br />

International Veterinary Affairs as the winner <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>2013</strong> American Veterinary Medicine Association’s XIIth<br />

International Veterinary Congress Prize.<br />

Molly Shepard, DVM, a clinical instructor <strong>of</strong><br />

anesthesia, is a Diplomate <strong>of</strong> the American College <strong>of</strong><br />

Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.<br />

Allison Haley, DVM, an<br />

assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> neurology<br />

and neurosurgery, is a Diplomate<br />

<strong>of</strong> the American College <strong>of</strong><br />

Veterinary Internal Medicine<br />

(Neurology).<br />

Brenton Credille, (DVM ’08),<br />

an assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> beef<br />

production, is a Diplomate <strong>of</strong> the Haley<br />

American College <strong>of</strong> Veterinary<br />

Internal Medicine (Large Animal Medicine).<br />

The CVM received three <strong>of</strong> 26 grants awarded<br />

throughout the <strong>University</strong> by the Office <strong>of</strong> the Vice<br />
