Billericay Art Trail
11th to 21st July 2013
Following on from the successful Art
Trail last year, Billericay’s shops will
again be hosting an array of artists and
craftspeople from around the town and
beyond. Once more as part of the annual
Essex Summer of Arts, illustrated trail
guides will be published to encourage all of us to discover new
artworks displayed in our shops.
We look forward to some warm weather for our enjoyment of
events like the New Orleans Day at St Mary Magdalen or The Big
Draw in Norsey Wood, which aim to give a new ‘festival feel’
to the week. Already we have painters, potters, graphic artists
and a mosaic designer preparing for this year’s event, with ages
ranging from 17 to 70+yrs old. Additionally there will be several
‘have a go’ opportunities for you, as well as other exhibitions,
events and a return of the ‘art people’ along the High Street.
So look out for our brochure or you may just want to keep in
touch on Facebook: page ‘Billericay Art Trail 2013’ or via our
website on www.billericayarttrail.co.uk.
Through encouraging more people to visit the town, and by
giving local people the opportunity to get involved in the arts,
the 2013 Trail offers a fantastic way to celebrate Billericay’s
cultural heritage whilst at the same time essentially backing
local commerce.
The Big Lunch enters its fifth year and is to be held on
Sunday 2nd June 2013 and is a one day get-together for
neighbours – an idea from the Eden Project, made possible
by the Big Lottery Fund, encouraging people across the UK
to come together for a few hours of food, friendship and
fun. The aim is to create stronger, friendlier communities
in which we share more, from small things like a chat and
a smile to bigger things such as skills and resources. Big
lunches can be any size and take place anywhere – in a
garden, street, park or community venue.
For further information: call 08458508181; Email:
info@thebiglunch.com or Visit: www.thebiglunch.com.
Why don’t you get involved this year and if you do, don’t
forget to tell us about it.
BILLERICAY LIONS HELP OUT
Billericay Lions Club was delighted to make a donation
of £2,500 to local charity Brighter Opportunities through
Supported Play (B.O.S.P.) on 8th February when the club’s
President, Ray Deane handed over a cheque to its chairman
Sheridan Leigh. B.O.S.P is an independent charity that
provides play and recreational activities for children and
young people with learning disabilities, helping to improve
their quality of life as well as providing respite opportunities
for their parents. Lions’ members were impressed with the
commitment and enthusiasm of the B.O.S.P. team and are
pleased to be able to help at a time when the charity is
coping with budget cuts from other sources. The money
