6 Regulations<br />

6.1 LAW GOVERNING FOOD SANITATION i<br />

The Department of Health (DOH) is the statutory body responsible for the management of food<br />

safety on <strong>Taiwan</strong>. Food products must comply with the “Law Govern<strong>in</strong>g Food Sanitation”,<br />

together with a series of food standards. The <strong>Taiwan</strong> Food & Drug Adm<strong>in</strong>istration is responsible<br />

for food quality <strong>in</strong>spections of imports. The food safety <strong>in</strong>spection of processed foods focuses on<br />

labell<strong>in</strong>g, food hygiene and food additives.<br />

6.2 SANITATION STANDARD FOR BOTTLED AND PACKAGED DRINKING WATER ii<br />

6.3 FOOD ADDITIVE REGULATIONS iii<br />

Imported processed food products that conta<strong>in</strong> artificial food additives are subject to strict<br />

tolerance levels and acceptable use requirements prescribed by <strong>Taiwan</strong>’s Department of Health.<br />

There are 17 additives categories <strong>in</strong> total. Standards for each of these categories can be found<br />

on the <strong>Taiwan</strong> Food and Drug Adm<strong>in</strong>istration website www.fda.gov.tw. The standards for two of<br />

theses categories (sanitiz<strong>in</strong>g agents and preservatives) are listed below.<br />
