Extending Logistics Information Technology
to Units Deployed on Operations
JP 2077 Phase 3 – Operational Logistics Enhancements

JP 2077 Phase 3 – Operational Logistics Enhancements
Support and sustainment of units on operations
A major logistics challenge for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) is the support
and sustainment of units on operations away from their bases. JP 2077 Phase 3 –
Operational Logistics Enhancements will give deployed forces access to the ADF’s
core transactional system and in-transit visibility of assets. Boeing Defence Australia
has access to a wide range of products deployed with Defence customers around the
world, capable of complementing and enhancing the ADF’s existing Defence Materiel
Logistics Information Systems (MLIS) while achieving these enhancements.
Global expertise of The Boeing Company
Boeing Defence Australia has access to the worldwide resources, technology and
experience of The Boeing Company. We have provided similar support solutions
at the Joint level U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), the UK Ministry
of Defence and government and non-government agencies throughout the world via
our wholly owned subsidiary, Tapestry Solutions. In Australia, we are recognised as a leading
Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) provider and we are sought out by other Defence
primes for our expertise.
USTRANSCOM – visibility of in-transit cargo
For the ADF to achieve end-to-end logistics management, JP 2077 must fill several
key gaps. The most pressing of these include in-transit visibility of items. Boeing
supports USTRANSCOM with the real-time tracking of parts for U.S. military aircraft,
such as the C-17 Globemaster III and F/A-18 Hornet fighter. Using transponders, they are
able to track their cargo or freight through to the theatre of operations. They are able
to see specific events, such as pick up, loading, department, discharge and delivery.
This provides deployed units with surety, that critical components will be dispatched and
arrive on time and as expected.
Tapestry Solutions – a Boeing company
With more than 17 years of experience designing enterprise and tactical level logistics
information systems, Tapestry Solutions has a proven record of producing logistics
information systems with user-friendly interfaces similar to what is required for JP
2077 Phase 3 – Operational Logistics Enhancements. Tapestry Solutions is a wholly
owned Boeing subsidiary integrated into the Logistics Command and Control (C2)
subdivision.
Their customers include the U.S. military, U.S government and non-government
agencies in Afghanistan, Germany, Iraq, Korea, Kuwait and Japan. They have
a range of software products that provide high-fidelity, real-time and map-centric logistics
information. Through Boeing Defence Australia, the ADF has access to these worldleading
logistics enhancing systems.
