Kim <strong>Smith</strong> is vice president <strong>of</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>, <strong>Health</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Safety</strong> for The Boeing<br />

Company, the world’s largest aerospace company.<br />

Appointed to this position in December 2011, <strong>Smith</strong> is responsible for leading<br />

Boeing’s environmental sustainability efforts, including continuously reducing the<br />

environmental footprint <strong>of</strong> its global operations, products <strong>and</strong> services as well as leading<br />

Boeing’s workplace safety programs <strong>and</strong> driving efforts to reduce workplace injuries to<br />

zero.<br />

<strong>Smith</strong> reports directly to John Tracy, Boeing chief technology <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>and</strong> senior<br />

vice president <strong>of</strong> Engineering, Operations & Technology.<br />

Prior to her current assignment, <strong>Smith</strong> was a director in Boeing Commercial<br />

Airplanes’ Supplier Management organization <strong>and</strong> served as the company’s program<br />

executive to Spirit AeroSystems. Named to this assignment in May 2009, she was<br />

responsible for all contracting efforts, supplier development, strategy development <strong>and</strong><br />

performance tied to Spirit. This included oversight <strong>of</strong> Spirit AeroSystems’ increased<br />

production <strong>of</strong> 737 fuselages <strong>and</strong> 747, 767, 777 <strong>and</strong> 787 structural components to meet<br />

an unprecedented dem<strong>and</strong> for Boeing airplanes.<br />

<strong>Smith</strong> originally joined Boeing in 1997, <strong>and</strong> has held a number <strong>of</strong> key positions at<br />

Boeing Commercial Airplanes including:<br />

Leading both the Auburn Machining <strong>and</strong> Emergent Operations <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Advanced Metal Structures units. Auburn Machining <strong>and</strong> Emergent<br />

Operations, with presence in Auburn, Everett <strong>and</strong> Renton, Wash., provides<br />

production <strong>and</strong> emergent parts <strong>and</strong> services to all Boeing Commercial


Airplanes programs <strong>and</strong> customers around the world. Advanced Metal<br />

Structures is an industry leader in developing <strong>and</strong> producing super-plastic<br />

formed parts from titanium <strong>and</strong> other exotic hard metals.<br />

Senior management positions in Quality Assurance with both the 737<br />

program <strong>and</strong> at BCA’s Fabrication Division.<br />

Production engineering support for the Renton Wing Responsibility Center.<br />

Manufacturing Research <strong>and</strong> Development for the 737 <strong>and</strong> 757 programs.<br />

Between 1999 <strong>and</strong> 2002, <strong>Smith</strong> worked at GKN Sinter Metals, a division <strong>of</strong> GKN<br />

plc, in Michigan, <strong>and</strong> served as plant manager. GKN Sinter Metals produces powdered<br />

metal parts for automotive <strong>and</strong> a wide range <strong>of</strong> other industries. As plant manager, she<br />

was responsible for all aspects <strong>of</strong> business, including manufacturing, quality, production<br />

engineering, materials management, facilities <strong>and</strong> finance.<br />

<strong>Smith</strong> earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Michigan State<br />

University <strong>and</strong> an Executive MBA from Seattle University.<br />
