GPS Positioning with ODNR Well Plat Requirements<br />
A new GPS concept in positioning is entering <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
surveying market called “Precise Point Positioning GPS.”<br />
<strong>Ohio</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources’ Division <strong>of</strong> Oil and<br />
Gas Resources Management produced a “Surveyor Well Plat<br />
Requirement” document dated October 17, 2011that state<br />
survey positional requirements. Based on <strong>the</strong>se two facts, this<br />
continuing education course provides <strong>the</strong> following information<br />
to educate <strong>Ohio</strong> surveyors on new science and technology:<br />

<strong>Ohio</strong> Easements and Rights <strong>of</strong> Way<br />
<strong>Surveyors</strong> deal with easements and rights <strong>of</strong> way virtually<br />
every day, and <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> a tremendous<br />
amount <strong>of</strong> litigation, so <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>of</strong> great interest to <strong>the</strong><br />
surveying community. This program covers all aspects <strong>of</strong><br />
easements and rights <strong>of</strong> way from <strong>the</strong>ir creation (both<br />
written and unwritten), through topics such as interference<br />
with an easement, maintenance <strong>of</strong> easements, overburdening<br />
easements, how easements differ from licenses,<br />
<strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> recordation, reversionary rights, and <strong>the</strong><br />
many ways in which easements and rights <strong>of</strong> way can be<br />
terminated or extinguished. The program will be tailored<br />
to <strong>Ohio</strong> law and court decisions.<br />

This session will detail <strong>the</strong> extensive updates to <strong>the</strong> “Call Before You Dig” Law, as well as <strong>the</strong><br />
changes taking place for <strong>the</strong> OUPS program in <strong>Ohio</strong>. OUPS staff will also detail additional law adjustments<br />
expected in <strong>the</strong> near future and <strong>the</strong> activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ohio</strong> Underground Damage Prevention<br />
Council.<br />

The most common pitfalls and problems <strong>of</strong> licensure, and how to avoid <strong>the</strong>m, will be discussed.<br />
