Word from the Chairman
The long awaited upturn in new investments in
the upstream oil and gas industry that started
in the summer of 2004 continued in 2005.
In general the Dutch upstream oil and gas
industry performed very well over the year.
Activities on the Dutch Continental Shelf
increased thanks to several new exploration and
production projects which were initiated in the
course of the year. However, most business was
still generated in areas outside Western Europe,
in particular the Gulf of Mexico, the Middle East,
West Africa, Central Asia and the Far East.
The executive office of the association also had a
busy and successful year in 2005. As in previous
years, high priority was given to the external
communication with the members of the
association. Four member-get-together meetings
(LOL meetings), six public meetings, the annual
general meeting, the ‘IRO Family Day’ as well
as three seminars and workshops proved again
to be a successful formula to strengthen the
network between members. Visits by the
managing director to individual member
companies were further intensified and provided
a lot of new ideas for expansion of the service
level of the association.
The oil and gas training course, which was
initiated late 2003, continued to be a great
success with five courses in Dutch and one in
English. All six courses were fully booked well in
advance.
On an international level, the continuously fruitful
co-operation with our sister organisations was
maintained through the Eurogif network. In April
an international Eureka matchmaking event was
organised jointly with Senter-Novem in
Amsterdam.
IRO’s participation in seven international
exhibitions, two trade missions and three foreign
matchmaking events contributed to the further
strengthening of our international ties.
The upturn in the oil and gas industry was also
reflected in the success of IRO. The association
saw a net growth of 21 new enthusiastic
members over the year. In view of the positive
prospects of the oil and gas industry, the
association and its members have good reasons
for a growing optimistic outlook to the
forthcoming years!
The IRO Well Services Group, the IRO Offshore
Wind energy Group, the IRO Export Group and the
IRO Safety Training Group all had a busy year with
various activities and a continuing growth of
membership figures. The IRO Gas Group was
founded in April and had three other meetings
during the year. By the end of the year
preparations were started for the formation of
the IRO Personnel Services Group in the
beginning of 2006.
Politics
Innovative Technology
Politics
Late in 2004, the Minister of Economic Affairs
presented a letter to Parliament to outline a
number of actions he proposed to stimulate and
enhance the production of natural gas in The
Netherlands. His proposals were positively
received by the industry. Subsequently IRO
and the Ministry jointly explored ways of
co-operation to implement proposed actions.
As a result the Ministry opened an information
stand in the IRO pavilion at the Offshore Europe
exhibition in Aberdeen to attract new (gas field)
operators to The Netherlands. Further joint
actions are under consideration and will be
detailed in 2006.
The new Dutch mining legislation which became
effective in 2003 still needs some amendments.
In particular the implementation of the working
time directive still proves to be very difficult for
offshore operating contractors and service
companies. The IRO Well Services Group has
drafted a proposal for an amended directive,
which was negotiated with the Dutch labour
unions and the ministries involved. The required
changes in the mining legislation are expected
to become effective in 2006.
Awareness for security of supply has finally also
reached Europe, bringing new attention to the
oil and gas industry by the Dutch government!
Innovative Technology
In 2005 there were four important innovative
technology activities:
IRO Seminar ‘Gas, Energy for the Future’
On 16th February 2005 IRO organised a seminar
entitled ’Gas, Energy for the Future’. The purpose of
the seminar was to inform IRO members on new
gas technology developments, and also to monitor
the interest in participation in an IRO Gas Group.
90 persons attended the seminar. Presentations
were given by Gasunie Engineering and Technology
on the ‘Gas building' and Pipeline Integrity
Management. Gusto/SBM gave a presentation
on the development of LNG import and export
concepts and Shell on gas systems of the future.
IRO Oil and Gas Innovation Event
The World Energy, Technology and climate policy
Outlook (WETO2030) projects an increase in world
energy demand of 1.8% per year between 2005 and
2030. The world energy system will continue to be
dominated by fossil fuels with almost 90% of total
energy supply. In 2030 technical challenges with
regard to the security of supply are:
- getting more from fields in production
- exploitation of deep and ultra deep offshore
reservoirs
- non conventional fossil energy resources
- migration to natural gas
- CO2 capture and storage
- migration to hydrogen
The oil and gas industry will have to find solutions
for these issues. These challenges can only be
resolved in concerted co-operation by the industry.
To inform suppliers in the oil and gas industry
on existing innovative technology programmes,
IRO in co-operation with TNO organised a meeting
on 6th April 2005. All innovative technology
programmes in the upstream oil and gas
industry in which Dutch companies can
participate were presented.
In total 16 organisations presented their
programmes:
International EUREKA matchmaking event
In co-operation with IRO and EUROGIA, Senter
Novem organised an international matchmaking
event for the oil and gas industry on 20th April 2005.
This event was attended by about 50 persons.
Pilot EZ Omnibus
As a result of the lobby activities of the Dutch
Maritime Platform, of which IRO is a member, the
offshore oil and gas industry has been selected as
one of the key areas (within the theme water) of the
Innovation Platform of Prime Minister Balkenende. In
the Pilot EZ Omnibus the Ministry of Economic Affairs
is making funds available for innovative activities in
key areas. The offshore industry started making a
paper in 2005 to convince the Ministry of Economic
Affairs that financial support for innovations in the
key area offshore oil and gas necessary.
4
Co-operation with other organisations
Co-operation with other
organisations
Over the year a lot of attention was again paid
to co-operation with other organisations in order
to exchange information and to share common
areas of interest.
In the field of export promotion, a number of
activities and events were organised jointly or
with the support of the Netherlands Foreign
Trade Agency (EVD), Netherlands embassies and
consulates abroad, the Dutch Maritime Network
(NML) and Holland Marine Equipment (HME).
Exchange of professional information took place
with the Netherlands Diving Centre (NDC), the
Royal Institution of Engineers (KIVI NIRIA), the
Central Dredging Association (CEDA), FME-CWM,
Fenedex and several NML partners. In some
cases joint activities like technical seminars
or presentations were organised. IRO would like
to thank these organisations for their generous
co-operation.
On a national level, IRO intensified its ties with
NOGEPA and a frequent exchange of views took
place on the implementation of the Dutch
mining legislation. Implementation of the
‘Mutual Indemnity Agreement’ also remained
a topic during the year, as some IRO members
are still unhappy with the arrangement.
As well, IRO continued to participate in the
quarterly consultation meetings with the State
Supervision of Mines (SodM), which have
proven to be a very useful medium to exchange
information.
participated in a matchmaking programme with
IRO members during the Offshore Europe
exhibition in Aberdeen.
Furthermore IRO supported IADC on the Drilling
HSE Europe conference and exhibition in
Denmark.
The various Thematic Networks, which were
set up by Eurogif under the 5th Framework
Programme, completed their projects in the
course of the year. As no new funds became
available from the European Commission under
the 6th Framework Programme, no new projects
were initiated in 2005.
Since there was no more justification for the
objectives of Eurogif, IRO decided to terminate
the membership of this organisation by the end
of 2005.
As an alternative several IRO members teamed
up and applied for R&D development funds
under the Eurogia cluster (an initiative under
the Eureka programme).
First Point Assessment Limited (FPAL) decided
to appoint their own representative in
The Netherlands and the co-operation with
IRO was terminated in October 2005.
On an international level bilateral co-operation
was further intensified with sister organisations
in France, the United Kingdom and Norway.
By invitation of Enterprise Ireland a presentation
was given in Dublin to a group of Irish oil & gas
supply companies. The same companies
Co-operation
Information
and Documentation
Information and Documentation
During 2004 a start was made with replacing
the existing paper files with electronic versions,
which can now be stored and disseminated much
easier. The gathering of information which is of
interest to IRO members was continued during
2005. Documents on file include:
• operator fact sheets
• general country information
• project fact sheets
• annual reports
• operator presentations, including so-called
ShareFair presentations
• data sheets on LNG (projects)
• other documents of general interest
Enquiries
In 2005 some 110 enquiries were received by
IRO both from members and non-members on a
variety of subjects. In the majority of the cases
people could be helped and provided with the
requested information or at least guided in the
right direction where and/or how to find what
they were looking for, such as contact persons,
telephone numbers, websites and the like.
ProjectNET
Through ProjectNET selected project information
is made available to subscribers. This
information, which is selected from a variety of
sources includes such information as alerts about
tenders, award of FEED (Front End Engineering
and Design), investment plans by operators,
approvals for project development and the like.
The reporting is on an international basis and
includes both onshore and offshore projects.
Where available the project reports include
contact information and maps and/or other
illustrations. The project information is published
on the IRO website where it is available to
subscribers. Effective December 2005
subscribers to ProjectNET now also receive
ProjectContacts four times per annum.
ProjectNET consists of a searchable database
going back to the first issue published in 1996.
The year 2006 will mark the 10th anniversary
of ProjectNET.
ProjectContacts
IRO maintains an extensive and up-to-date
directory with contact information of operators
and government agencies in many countries.
Details include names of persons and, where
available, their direct telephone numbers and
e-mail addresses. At the end of 2005 this
directory included some 1,200 entries.
Subscribers to ProjectNET receive this directory
four times per year as part of their subscription.
A separate subscription to ProjectContacts is
also available.
Netherlands Oil & Gas Catalogue
The catalogue had an increase in the number
of advertisers, which gave a more complete
overview of the Dutch upstream oil and gas
industry.
The mailing list for the catalogue was also
more extensive. A new mailing list was used,
namely ProjectContacts, which gave a broader
distribution of the catalogue internationally and
included relevant contact persons. The catalogue
can be viewed via www.iro-noc.nl.
IRO Newsletter
In December 2005 a new publication was
introduced: the IRO Newsletter. This letter was
sent by mail to all international relations of the
association. The goal of this newsletter is to
inform these relations about the IRO activities
and the activities and expertise of our members.
Also, an overview of the Dutch upstream oil and
gas industry is given.
The newsletter will be issued twice a year.
IRO Website
As IRO regularly received requests to place
vacancies on the website, it was decided to add
a new page to the website. IRO found a good
partner in Navingo, a company with large
experience in the maritime industry, websites
and vacancy databases. This resulted in
www.oilgascareer.nl, which was launched 15th
November during our Annual General Meeting.
On this website members and non members can
place their job offers for a period of two months.
If an advertiser is an IRO member, the job is also
placed on the IRO website for free (www.iro.nl /
OilGasCareer). The statistics of the new website
showed a large number of visitors, and persons
seeking employment were recruited. As a
promotion IRO members were offered to place
their jobs free until 1st March 2006 and a
discount was offered to place a company profile.
China Oil and Gas Market
Assessment
China, with one-fifth of the world’s population
and one of the fastest rates of economic growth,
is experiencing a boom in its energy requirements.
China has been identified as a high priority
market for the oil and gas sector. This priority has
resulted in the high level of investment and many
large-scale projects related to the oil and gas
industry. Oil production from existing fields is
expected to increase, new oil and gas fields will
be developed, and the country’s oil and gas
transmission infrastructure will be extended to
meet domestic demands. In addition, total
domestic investment needs for the next three
decades till 2030 are estimated at around
$ 119 billion, and upstream exploration and
development will account for about $ 69 billion.
China's oil and gas exploitation business has
been the biggest beneficiary of the bearish crude
oil prices, national oil stockpile and the need
of infrastructure. In the first six-month period
6
of 2005, this industry has gained a profit of
$ 16.5 billion, up 73.4 per cent year-on-year.
The country is becoming increasingly open to
international oil companies, contractors and
equipment suppliers, who can bring advanced
technology, equipment, and management
experience. In this context, considerable
opportunities in the supply and service
sectors are open to Dutch companies.
This report analyses the present situation and
market prospect of China upstream oil and gas
industry, including:
- current status of Chinese oil and gas industry
analysis and future development forecast
- potential customers analysis, such as three
state-owned oil companies and their foreign
partners
- domestic and foreign competitors analysis;
- potential opportunities and challenges
analysis
- contacts and information on main ongoing
oil exploration and development projects,
and business practices
Course ‘Oil and gas well sourced’
In 2005, the training course about the oil and gas
industry was given seven times, of which there
were two in-house courses and one course in
English. In total 109 certificates were issued.
This non-technical course is meant for people
that work in the industry but who do not have
enough knowledge about it. In this two-day
course participants learn, amongst other things,
how oil and gas came into being, how it is found,
how it is won, what technology is used and how
the industry is organised.
Committees, Working Groups and
Export Groups
Committee on Commercial and
Financial Affairs (CCFZ)
Monitoring international developments with
regard to oil and gas is an important task of
the CCFZ. Interesting countries the CCFZ
focuses on are Kazakhstan, Libya and China.
The CCFZ advised IRO to continue its activities
on Kazakhstan and organise new export
promotional events on Libya and China (see
chapter Export Promotion for details).
Committee on Public Relations (CPR)
The committee looked into different types of
communication. The amount of visitors to the
internet website was evaluated. Statistics
showed that the website is well visited. The
results of the ranking when searched for by logic
keywords in a search engine were satisfactory.
Also the committee evaluated from which part
of the world visitors are attracted to the website.
Statistics showed that export promotional
activities like an exhibition or a trade mission
influenced the rate of visitors positively.
The committee supported more international
communication and the first IRO Newsletter was
issued in December 2005 to inform relations
abroad about the activities of IRO and its
members.
Also, the 35th anniversary of IRO, which will be
in 2006, was discussed in the committee. The
first ideas were launched and will be worked out
during next year.
Committee on Technical and
regulatory Affairs (CTR)
The Oil and Gas Innovation Event, which was
initiated by the CTR to inform IRO members on
available innovative technology programmes, was
a great success: 16 organisations presented their
technology and there were 150 participants.
More information can be found in the chapter
Innovative Technology. The CTR is planning a
follow up in 2007.
IRO Gas Group (IGG)
The IRO Gas Group was established on the
1st April 2005. The purpose of the IGG is
enhancing individual marketing and sales of
gas related products and services by promoting
The Netherlands as a high gas technology
country. Co-operation with the government and
leader firms as NAM and Gasunie are essential
to realise the goals.
The government has better access to foreign
state oil and gas companies, is in a better
position to invite them to The Netherlands and
arrange visits to high tech gas installations of
NAM and Gasunie. Also the government has an
array of financial instruments to support the
Dutch supply industry.
Another function of the IGG is to inform members
on new gas developments, for instance LNG.
Also co-operation in innovative technology
programmes to develop new gas technologies
is an option.
IRO Offshore Wind energy Group
(IOWG)
Though there were only two IOWG meetings in
2005, both meetings were very interesting.
On 22nd March the meeting, which was held at
Croon Elektrotechniek, focused on the three
access systems for offshore wind turbines: the
Ampelmann developed by TU Delft, the Offshore
Access System of Fabricom and the Windcat
high speed catamaran. The conclusion of the
presentations was that probably the best
solution is a combination of all three systems.
On 21st June during the IOWG meeting at
Fugro, Vestas gave a presentation on the
lessons learned from Horns Rev.
Two other planned IOWG meetings had to be
cancelled due to low attendance as a result of
busy agenda’s and perhaps the lack of progress
in the Dutch offshore wind energy projects.
IRO Personnel Services Group (IPSG)
As many of the personnel services companies
that are members of IRO indicated that they
were interested in the establishment of an IRO
Personnel Services Group, a brainstorm meeting
was held on 19 October 2005. As twenty
personnel services companies attended the
brainstorm meeting and many suggestions of
possible subjects for an IRO Personnel Services
Group were brought forward, it was decided to
proceed with establishing this working group.
Subjects the IPSG will deal with are for example
training, internationalisation, certification,
networking, promotion, exchange of information,
salaries, pensions, liability insurances and taxes.
An inaugural meeting is planned for January
2006.
IRO Safety & Training Group (ISTG)
During the year 2005 the ISTG met three times
to discuss various issues of mutual interest.
One of these issues includes the opportunity to
contribute to the updating of the NOGEPA training
manual. Suggestions will be gathered and
forwarded to NOGEPA during the year 2006 for
the new edition which is planned for publication
in January 2007.
A recurring issue discussed during the ISTG
meetings is the aim of achieving a uniform and
mutually acceptable set of the requirements for
safety training in the various countries around the
North Sea. This would enable a more flexible
deployment of workers in the various countries
without having to obtain a different safety
certificate for each and every country.
ISTG members receive news on safety issues
and/or accidents by e-mail on an ad-hoc basis.
8
During 2005 some 45 such messages were sent
to the members.
IRO Well Services Group (IWSG)
Though the working time directive and the
Mutual Indemnity Agreement were still the main
subjects of the IWSG, a large number of other
issues was also dealt with such as a salary
survey, the storage of explosives, smart cards,
harmonisation of safety certifications and the
reclaim of excess paid social insurance
premiums.
As the chairman of the IWSG also participates
in the quarterly meetings of SodM (State
Supervision of Mines), the meetings are also an
important occasion to inform the IWSG members
on what has been discussed in the SodM
meeting. More and more this working group is
asked by SodM and NOGEPA to participate in
meetings on subjects that regard the industry.
With regard to the Mutual Indemnity Agreement
the situation is that a number of IWSG companies
still are of the opinion that adding an explanatory
note as agreed with NOGEPA is not enough.
However, currently more than 230 Dutch
suppliers have signed the MIA, so it will be
very hard to convince NOGEPA to accept an
alternative.
IRO Export Group (IEG)
Three thematically IRO Export Group meetings
were organised. The themes were Libya, China
and Russia. Two IEG meetings were combined
with seminars: one on China and one on Russia.
For Libya Mr. Berend Scheffers of TNO gave an
account of his visit to Libya at the June 2005
meeting. A trade mission to Libya is planned for
2007. As the interest for the IEG is diminishing,
promoting the IEG is a continuous activity.
Export Promotion
Exhibitions
The organisation of a Dutch participation in exhibitions is part of the export
promotion activities of IRO. We offer members and non-members the
opportunity to take part in the Dutch pavilion at international exhibitions all
over the world. Included in the package is full-service before, during and
after the show. We have contact with the show organisers and arrange,
amongst other things, stand construction, transport and catering.
IRO members can also opt for three different ways of participation in the IRO
booth. Though the exposure for each company is less compared to
participation with their own booth in the pavilion, it is a good way to get
familiar with an exhibition and/or to take part at a different cost level.
Offshore Mediterranean Conference, Italy
Compared to OMC 2003, OMC 2005 saw a raise in total square meters of
nearly 13 percent (from 9,828 sqm to 11,275 sqm). The number of
exhibiting companies also increased. At OMC 2005 there were 178
companies participating directly and another 156 companies were
represented. The total number of visitors of the exhibition was 3,311 in
three days. Apart from a focus on the Italian oil and gas industry, the
exhibition also concentrated on the North African market with stands
from the national oil companies of Egypt and Libya.
The Holland Export booth represented nine companies, besides EVD and
IRO. The support of the EVD made it possible to set up an impressivelooking
Holland Export Booth that was paid a well appreciated visit by
the Dutch Consul General from Milan, Mr. I.G. Roos.
Overview exhibitions 2005
IRO participated in the following exhibitions in 2005:
The IRO exhibition programme is selected upon experience, interest shown
by our member companies (during meetings, visits, the annual exhibition
survey and so on) and the remarks of the CCFZ, that reviews the
programme.
Oil & Gas Exhibition Almaty, Kazakhstan Dutch Pavilion (69 sqm) 4 - 7 October
E-Exitep, Mexico
In general this exhibition focussed on the domestic Mexican oil and gas
activities, which are all concentrated around Pemex, due to its monopolistic
position. The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity to obtain
information on the Mexican oil and gas market and to establish contacts
with local partners. With the assistance of EuroCentro, the commercial
department organised an extensive matchmaking programme with a large
number of individual contact meetings for the Dutch delegates. Overall the
exhibition was well organised, the official exhibition catalogue, however, was
nothing like a professional exhibition guide.
Iran Oil Show, Iran
Based upon requests from members, IRO took part in this large scale
exhibition. The foreign companies were concentrated in two or three halls.
The Dutch pavilion was located on the first floor of the main hall, the
Mabna hall. The pavilion consisted of 11 individual booths and a total of
23 companies were represented. A lot of representatives of the Iranian
supply industry showed genuine interest in the Dutch companies present at
the show. Staff of the Dutch Embassy was present at the show all week and
assisted Dutch business people where necessary. Also in the planning and
organisation of the Dutch participation at this show, the embassy has been
of great assistance.
Offshore Technology Conference, USA
If it’s the Dutch, it’s much!
For the second consecutive time the Dutch pavilion was the largest
international participant in the show with a little over 1,000 sqm. Almost 50
companies were represented in 27 booths in the Dutch pavilion. Participants
highly valued the show and were very satisfied with the quality of the
visitors. In 2005 OTC was again very successful, bringing a record 51,320
attendees to Houston in four days. Besides the visitors, there were also
2,087 participating companies. On 2nd May the Consulate General in Miami,
the consulate in Houston and some 20 other sponsoring companies offered
the Dutch participants and their American counterparts a very successful
reception in the Intercontinental Hotel that was attended by over 300
guests.
10
Offshore Europe, Scotland
This year’s exhibition was one of the most successful since it first opened its
doors in 1973. Over 1,550 companies from 37 different countries took part in
the exhibition. A record of 32,500 visitors from 108 countries attended this
major event. As in previous years the Dutch pavilion was located on a central
spot in the Blue Zone. With 21 booths and another 11 companies represented
in the IRO booth the pavilion was well visited. In general the participants were
satisfied about the exhibition and some even indicated that they made some
very good contacts of which interesting leads were to be expected. However,
the comment that the visitors sometimes lacked the required quality was also
heard.
Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Exhibition,
Kazakhstan
KIOGE has become one of the major events in the oil and gas industry
of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. In 2005 about 420 companies from 34
countries attended KIOGE. Traditionally a large number of international
pavilions were present at the show. The Dutch pavilion represented 10
companies besides IRO and EVD. The Dutch participants were offered a
matchmaking programme, a seminar ‘Opportunities in the Kazakhstan Oil
and Gas Industry’, the traditional ‘Leidens Ontzet Party’ at the residence
of the Dutch Ambassador in Kazakhstan and a network reception at the
Dutch pavilion. In general the participants were satisfied about the
exhibition, however the number of visitors was significantly lower than
in previous years.
Export Promotional Events
Kazakhstan
In 2005 AGIP KCO organised three events, not only to inform foreign
companies on the possibilities offered by the Kashagan field in Kazakhstan,
but also to match Kazakh companies with foreign companies. The first event
was on 15th March in Ravenna, Italy and was attended by about 40 IRO
members. The second event was in Almaty, Kazakhstan and was attended
by four IRO members. The third event was in Aberdeen, UK in conjunction
with Offshore Europe. This event focused on the logistic challenges of the
Kashagan project and was attended by five IRO members. The main
message of these three events was that local content is an important
condition for doing successful business in the Kazakh oil and
gas industry.
In spite of a low attendance of IRO members in these activities, IRO
11
estimates that about 130 Dutch suppliers are active in pursuing business in
the Kazakhstan oil and gas industry.
Columbus Russia project
Under the umbrella of the Dutch Maritime Board, Hiswa (the association of
the yacht building industry), Holland Marine Equipment and IRO started a
sequence of activities focused on the maritime industry (including offshore
industry) in Russia and the Caspian Sea area. Through the St. Petersburg
Foundation for SME Development a Russian consultant was commissioned
to make a report on the opportunities in the Russian maritime industry
(equipment, yacht building, offshore). The report was presented at a seminar
on 30th November 2005. Follow up plans include a trade mission to
Moscow and St. Petersburg from 18 - 22 June 2006 and a participation
in the oil and gas exhibition Neftegaz, from 19 - 23 June 2006.
China
As a result of the advice of the CCFZ, IRO started a sequence of activities
to bring the opportunities offered by China to the attention of IRO members.
IRO had a China oil and gas market assessment made by a Chinese national
studying at RSM Erasmus University Rotterdam. The report was presented at
a seminar on doing business with China, which IRO organised in August in
co-operation with IHC Hydrohammer. These activities resulted in an IRO Oil
and Gas Mission to China (7 - 17 December) in which 6 IRO members
participated. The cities Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin were visited. The
programme consisted of visits to oil companies, contractors and shipyards.
Furthermore, individual matchmaking programmes and network receptions
were arranged in each visited city. The conclusion that can be drawn from
this mission is that China has a well-developed oil and gas supply industry,
but that there are possibilities for the supply of advanced technologies
especially with regard to deep offshore technology. Follow up activities
are planned for 2006 and 2007.
Subsidies
In 2005 the Agency for International Business and Co-operation (EVD) for the
first time introduced the CPA (Collectieve Promotionele Acties) tendering
system to apply for financial support for export promotional activities. This
system was introduced to comply with EU requirements for fair tendering.
In 2005 there were two application rounds under this new system. In May
IRO was rewarded financial support for Holland pavilions at KIOGE 2005 and
EWEC 2006. In round two (November 2005) IRO was rewarded financial
support for Holland pavilions at the Iran Oil Show 2006, World Gas
Conference in 2006 and ADIPEC 2006. According to EVD the IRO proposals
were of a high quality and resulted in a high score of rewarded projects
(five out of six).
Though IRO is pleased with the high score of rewarded projects, the
level of details required for submitting the applications, the limited
yearly application rounds and the relative long period between application
and approval, the system proved difficult to work with for IRO.
Besides EVD, the Netherlands Maritime Board (NML) also generously
supported a number of IRO activities. Activities financially supported by
NML were the IRO Oil and Gas Innovation Event, the Dutch pavilion at
Offshore Europe, the IRO Oil and Gas Trade Mission to China and a study
on the oil and gas industry in the Rotterdam area (to be finalised in 2006).
Member and non-member events
A large number of events have already been covered in this Annual Report.
The New Year Reception, Gulf Forecast Meeting and the General Assembly
are annually returning events. IRO also organises a number of Membersmeet-members
events every year, of which the purpose is to share
information and to strengthen the network. Other member events were
organised in co-operation with the Federation for Dutch Export (Fenedex),
Central Dredging Association (CEDA) and Groot Verspaners Nederland
(GVN) which gave the opportunity to enhance the network between the
associations.
In April, IRO organised an IRO Family Day at Toverland in Sevenum. The day
in this theme park was organised for IRO members and their families and
was attended by some 350 adults and children. IRO member Huisman-Itrec
has a roller coaster in this park, the Booster Bike, which is a track for
motorbikes to race around. The park also has a magic garden, a theatre
and all sorts of attractions. As the attractions are combined with large scale
indoor and outdoor playing areas, it was suitable for persons of every age.
There was not an official programme, so everybody could do what they liked
and enjoy themselves. The group came together one time, namely at lunch
in a reserved area.
