From the President
Kate Delaforce
PRESIDENT
GUGC Student Guild
k.delaforce@griffith.edu.au
Hi Everyone,
After proclaiming that the last GETAMUNGSTIT would be my final spiel as President,
I’m back! As I enter my sixth year of University life, some may think I’m crazy, but I
LOVE IT! I would like to extend a big warm welcome to those new students who are
starting at Griffith University Gold Coast Campus this year; and welcome back to
those students who made it through last year. I hope that 2013 brings much bliss,
happiness and success to you all this year!
2013 is going to be a big year for the Student Guild, and I feel honoured to be involved with it all. For those who are
new, come check us out and find out the services we have to offer. If you’re looking to get the best out of University
life then get involved! Sporting teams, cultural clubs, on campus Gym, on campus Bar, Uni parties, events such
as Uni Race Day, trivia nights, movie nights, movie tickets etc. etc. etc. Come and see us! ….
And the big event we launch this year (amongst many others) is the Inaugural Student Guild Ball, to be held
at Jupiters Casino on April 20. This is going to be a spectacular event accommodating up to 1000 students! 5
hour drink package, 3 course meal, entertainment, prizes and giveaways etc. Organise a table of 8-12 with your
friends, or buy tickets individually. MAKE SURE YOU DON’T MISS OUT! …
If you are interested in becoming a Student Representative on the Student Guild Board, come into the Student
Guild and find out how. We welcome new faces and new ideas so don’t hold back! Also if you have any queries or
questions please don’t hesitate to email me: k.delaforce@griffith.edu.au; and feel free to make yourself known
to me at any time, I am open and friendly and here for you all! Looking forward to a great year, as I expect you all
are too!
Meet Your Board
2013 is not only a big year for the Student Guild, but more
importantly it is a big year for you as a student, or at
least we hope a memorable one in which we, that being
the Student Guild, hope to create for you in some sense.
Second semester of 2012 saw the introduction of the
Student Services and Amenities fee by Griffith University,
as was a similar situation seen from Universities Australiawide.
As a student, I completely understand how paying
an extra fee can seem; however myself and your student
representative board hope you can appreciate the benefits
we are now able to implement to create an enhanced
university experience for you all.
A small indication of some of the changes We introduced
15% off textbooks in the bookshop for all Griffith University
students, discounted gym membership prices ($295 for a
year of gym, plus a free gym pack with a backpack, towel
and protein shaker = crazy!), increased funding for affiliated
sporting and cultural clubs, hiring of a Student Support
and Advocacy Officer (and he is awesome, if you have any
issues, please come in and see Steve!), lower drink prices
in the bar (get in there!) and the resurrection of the Student
Guild Ball (to be held in April, get your friends together
and purchase a table, it is going to be a massive event!).
And of course the reintroduction of this very magazine;
the Getamungstit. This magazine is designed for you,
and we want you to contribute! Submit a poem, a story,
an experience you want to share, a perspective you desire
to express, a letter to the editor, artwork, a photograph,
some interesting facts etc. etc. etc. All I ask is that you
keep it clean. I have a great faith in all students upholding
the ability to express a thought/idea/perspective without
having to swear.
The listed changes plus many others are a result of
both your Student Guild Board and the employees of the
Student Guild who in the end take the ideas/feedback and
make the changes happen! Therefore, it is important that
you know who your Student Guild Board are. Listed below
are all names and email addresses. You can contact myself
or any board member at any time, they are all open and
willing to take your feedback on board. Lastly, keep your
eyes and ears posted for the upcoming co-option. There
are positions available, if you have a genuine interest in
representing students, their concerns, issues and needs,
we want you! Forms will be out in March.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
