fluvo: a moving experience
Strawberries and cream, fish and chips, gin and tonic …some things bring out the best in each other
and that applies to Certikin and fluvo. A pool comes alive with fluvo water attractions. The
Thurlestone Hotel in Devon is just one of many that will testify to the joy of fluvo’s thrills!
T
he luxurious family-owned Thurlestone Hotel near Kingsbridge in
Devon is used to accolades having won Gold in Visit Britain’s Large
Hotel of the Year Awards for Excellence 2010 but they were not
prepared for the deluge of compliments that followed the completion
of a stunning Wellness suite in July.
The hotel’s original indoor pool, with a small acrylic spa and steam
room was dated and in need of complete refurbishment. The hotel
employed Torquay-based, Harris Pools & Leisure who turned to the
services of Certikin for the advice, design and supply of a large
amount of equipment.
At the heart of the hotel’s new Wellness Centre is an impressively
large deck-level spa with fluvo’s state-of-the-art water features and
eye-catching multi-coloured LED lighting with remote control.
The spa boasts two fluvo Swan Jets with 3KW Pump, four Comfort
Jets with 4KW Pump and two Seated Air pads with 1.2KW pump.
Certikin’s Commercial Manager, Steve Nelson says: ‘Certikin is proud
to be the exclusive distributor of fluvo equipment in the UK. No other
hydrotherapy equipment can hold a candle to its quality and reliability.
Fluvo is a bit like Rolls Royce - you don’t want any other make once
you’ve tried the best! It is well proven that hydrotherapy pools are the
single best relaxation resource that a hotel can provide. They are
excellent for exercising, give a sense of wellbeing and are great fun!’
Other Certikin equipment featured in the spa includes a Deep Bed
Alpine Sand Filter, Aquaspeed Pump, Trident UV and Bowman Heat
Exchanger.
Certikin also designed a Thermal Suite incorporating the latest
features including a laconium, sauna, steam room and speciality
shower unit (a Tropical rain shower and standard drench shower).
The swimming pool shell was stripped of tiles, and the old built-in
steps were removed. The original tiled scum channel was replaced

‘I think the end result exceeded everyone’s expectations. We have
been using Certikin equipment since 1983 and I am confident in
saying that we could not have completed this project without the
exceptional support and service we received from Certikin,
especially Steve Nelson (Certikin Commercial Manager). His input
on the equipment’s specification and design was vital, and he was
always able to advise and help when unforeseen problems cropped
up. Now the project is up and running we are pleased that
everything is working like clockwork, and the quality of the
specified equipment has matched the quality of the environment.’
Mike adds: ‘As a company, we only occasionally get involved in
major commercial projects such as this one but we would like to do
more. One of our earlier projects also involved fluvo water features
and a Calorex Delta Unit and went on to win SPATA Pool
of the Year in 1997.’
and three new Certikin Supaskimmers fitted. The pool filtration, air
handling and all other equipment were scrapped and replaced with
Certikin’s two 800mm diameter deep bed Sand Filters, two
Aquaspeed Pumps, Trident UV, a Bowman Heat Exchanger, an AXS
Disabled Hoist and multi-coloured LED Lights. All pipework, fittings
and valves throughout were supplied by Certikin. A Calorex Delta unit
was also installed to address the pool’s heating requirements.
With glowing comments from guests such as ‘Wow, this is
exceptional and far exceeds our expectations!’ and ‘Every detail
has been thought of with really tasteful design and amazing
facilities,’ the hotel’s owners are also delighted.
The whole project took six months to complete during which the hotel
remained open so any disturbance to the guests had to be kept to an
absolute minimum. ■
