Progress Rail Services UK offers a range of
products for the railway infrastructure
market. We cater for various applications:
mainline, light rail, tramways and heavy haul
(freight). We are accredited to BS EN
ISO9001:2008, BS EN ISO 14001:2004 and
OHSAS 18001
We have five manufacturing sites in the UK
which produce switches, crossings, cast iron
products and a variety of other strategic rail
components. Two of these sites have rail
sidings
We have long established relationships with
state owned and private sector companies
across the globe, and have been exporting
specialist railway technology for over 100
years
Special Trackwork
Engineering capability to design,
manufacture, pre-assemble and supply
complex trackwork infrastructure in a variety
of rail types, on concrete, timber or slab
Trackwork is manufactured and generally
pre-assembled and inspected before being
delivered within the UK or overseas.
Maintenance parts such as spare switches,
crossings, insulated bonded joints,
expansion (breather) switches and any other
component can also be supplied

Preassembled Layout
We manufacture and supply special
trackwork in RE136 rail for 40 Tonne axle
loads. Incorporating thick web switches,
swing nose crossing within a cast
manganese cradle and hollow steel tie
technology for motor powered or manually
operated switches and crossings(frogs)

foundry in Scotland, we design, produce
patterns, cast and machine embedded
trackwork products
We are a major supplier of switches and
crossings to mass transit systems, docks
and harbour authorities, including the
United States Navy
Cast Manganese Steel Crossings
Cast manganese steel is a tough and
durable material. This provides the client
with a quality product that is lower
maintenance and harder wearing than
crossings made out of standard grade
steel. All of our cast manganese steel
crossings can be fishplated or welded into
track.

Electrification Steelwork
We are specialists in the delivery of railway
power supply structures to the UK network.
Rail Forging Capability
Our high output fully automated forge press
is designed to forge rails so that a joint can
be made between dissimilar sections.
We manufacture structural steelwork, from
basic “column and base” products to
complex pre-cambered four-track portal
structures
Commonly used to forge shallow depth rail
to full depth sections, it is also used to forge
transition rails.
We are able to produce forgings with a full
depth section upto 600mm long, and have
the ability to maintain the hardness after
forging BHN 350 and greater hardness rails.
Rail Ancillaries
Progress Rail Services produces a vast
range of rail ancillaries including insulated
block joints, expansion switches, transition
rails and bridge joints.

Permanent Way Castings
With a dedicated permanent way cast iron
foundry, Progress Rail Services can provide
its clients with high quality components. Our
SG and grey iron foundry can produce a
variety of castings including baseplates and
slide plates, heel blocks, crossing blocks,
collector shoes and also electrification
catenary parts.
