AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES TALKING SET TOP BOX ROLLOUT<br />

<strong>Bush</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>, (developers of award winning <strong>Set</strong> <strong>Top</strong> <strong>Box</strong>es, PVRs and Digital Radios)<br />

applauds the announcement by the <strong>Government</strong> to assist blind or vision impaired people<br />

with the switch over to Digital Broadcasting.<br />

In order to ensure that no-one is left behind in the switch to digital television, <strong>Bush</strong> <strong>Australia</strong><br />

developed, with the assistance of the <strong><strong>Australia</strong>n</strong> <strong>Government</strong> and Vision <strong>Australia</strong> a <strong>Talking</strong><br />

<strong>Set</strong> <strong>Top</strong> <strong>Box</strong>, using state of the art text to speech technology and compatible with all existing<br />

televisions.<br />

This means that using the on-screen menus, the electronic program guide and help screens<br />

are simple for users to navigate with accurate voice confirmation of all functions.<br />

“As part of this commitment, I am pleased to announce that talking set-top boxes are now<br />

to be integrated into our Household Assistance Scheme and rolled out with the Digital<br />

Switchover program in the future.” said Senator Stephen Conroy - Minister for Broadband,<br />

Communications and the Digital Economy.<br />

Several leading technologies have been incorporated into the <strong>Bush</strong> <strong>Talking</strong> Television HD <strong>Set</strong><br />

<strong>Top</strong> <strong>Box</strong> and during the consultative process with Vision <strong>Australia</strong> a ‘key learn’ mode was<br />

developed which helps the user learn the functionality of the remote control via voice<br />

prompts provided by the box.<br />
