request for Lee Ann Miller of the Juvenile Probation Department to attend the<br />

Pathways Conference for Victim Services on May 9-<strong>10</strong>, 20<strong>12</strong> in Lancaster,<br />

Pennsylvania;<br />

request for Robert Bittner, Walt Fela, Veronica Lloyd, Michael Visinsky, Ed Bakale,<br />

and Rebecca Boyer of the Adult Probation Department to attend the Community<br />

Corrections Conference on April 30-May1, 20<strong>12</strong> in State College, Pennsylvania; and<br />

request for Tara Yutzy-Collier of the Public Defender’s Office to attend the Capital<br />

Cases Seminar on April 26-27, 20<strong>12</strong> in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.<br />

The vote was unanimous. Motion carried.<br />

Proclamation – Month of the Young Child<br />

Katie Klein of the Early Learning Advisory Group requested that the Commissioners proclaim the month<br />

of April as the Month of the Young Child. She stated this year, the Week of the Young Child is April<br />

21-28. There is a Kids Fair scheduled on April 28 th at the <strong>Somerset</strong> <strong>County</strong> Church of the Brethren from<br />

<strong>10</strong>:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to showcase the early childhood programs and services. Dr. Hajel will be having<br />

a demonstration, Representative Carl Metzger, Linda’s Dance, Laurel Arts, and Boys & Girls Club will<br />

all have booths. Young Life will be serving food. Everyone is encouraged to attend the Fair and see<br />

what services are available for early childhood education in our area.<br />

Motion by Joe Betta, seconded by John P. Vatavuk to adopt Proclamation No. 5 of 20<strong>12</strong> proclaiming the<br />

month of April, 20<strong>12</strong>, as Month of the Young Child as follows:<br />

WHEREAS, the <strong>Somerset</strong> <strong>County</strong> LEARN Team and other local organizations, in conjunction<br />

with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Month of the<br />

Young Child in April; and<br />

WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are<br />

crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in<br />

<strong>Somerset</strong> <strong>County</strong> Pennsylvania; and<br />

WHEREAS, all young children and their families across the country and in <strong>Somerset</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

Pennsylvania deserve access to high-quality early education and care; and<br />

WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are<br />

committed to high-quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids.
